Title: BIG plans
Post by: Andyn on June 03, 2015, 12:39:00 pm
Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get some very large plans printed? I'm talking at least 2.2 meters wide

Try your local Architect or even printers.....you might be able to get some printed at A1 size ....what you will probably find Andy is that you might have to get the plans made in sections and simply join them together with selotape

Hi Andy

Is 2.2m the narrowest edge? I know maybe a dumb question.
If not then rotating the plan can help as most plan print machines have paper on a roll and length is not limited, but width is.

However, sometimes there is some stretch of the paper in one direction. This may affect your model.
You can check for this. If printing from file, then print a 2cm square box in the plan, and measure after.
If printing by copying, cut out a piece of graph paper and stick it onto the original before copying. Then check the print.

This is my local copy shop and they're probably typical of most. The widest paper they can handle is 54" but, as Mark says, the other dimension is restricted only by the roll length.  http://www.johnewright.com/print/ (http://www.johnewright.com/print/)
A printer which would actually handle paper that wide might be found somewhere in the car industry perhaps, but I've never heard of one - and where on earth would you obtain paper that wide??!!
One thing is for sure - it'll cost more even than a haircut for you..........................  ;D

Staples Office Supplies can print pdf files etc from an sd card or memory stick to A0 size, that is the biggest size you can go to without specialist poster printing company, whom I would imagine would not be interested in a one off project. The sizes of paper are A0=33 x 47, 2A0= 47 x66,  4A0= 66x93, all sizes in inches. Notice there are two larger sizes than A0 but good luck with finding anyone that stocks it never mind has a printer large enough to take it!
