Title: iom help n advice?

Hi Lads looking for some help advice, am in uk near Norwich looking for a nice yacht, maybe IOM size, something easy to move around,good fun , does not need a lot of work to sail have fun with , so far have in mind kyosho seawind? I do lik ethe all abs type hulls without the sticky top covers, any other nice yacht out there or any sites to look at? price around £250-£300? thanks skippers, glen

Hi Glenny
The Norwich Club have a least a dozen IOM's in their fleet.  Might be worth contacting them as some of the more "competitive" sailors often change their boats from the ABS type deck to the new 'go faster' sticky top ones.  {-)
For new ones, Howes Models sometimes have reasonable priced ones.

I do like the kyosho seawind, but I keep reading about water coming in, and cannot find a upgrade to the hatch, but so far its on my top list

IOM's can be very expensive new, anywhere from £500 up to £1800 just for a hull, Even 2nd hand ones can hold there value so be wary.

You can try ebay you may get lucky,
but i would suggest putting an advert up here ...

with your budget, you will normally get contacted, as those boys like to swap out to new hulls regularly, our club uses it and we get a lot of good hits within the £2-300 price range with full rigs.

Last one was £180 with all 3 sail sets, and only required a TX set to get working, overall the boat was in excellent condition, only a few scrape marks.

Or you could try to make one yourself using the Traplet wood kit..

Nylets do the Full rigs (sails, MAst, Boom, Jib etc)

Or if your after something a little cheaper and easier to mange (smaller boat) maybe try a wee nip.

Again wood pack from Traplet and Sail can be brought pre-made from Nylets, they are so simple to build, sail and maintain only being a single sail.  i promise!, don't believe me this is mine...

And the rest. I have seen carbon fibre IOM hulls for over 6000


If you are thinking about a yacht, find out what class/classes are being used at your local clubs. It is good to have the same class for several reasons.
