Hey all, Got a question maybe someone will have an answer to.Many years ago I had purchased one of those 1/125 scale destroyers,but the hull has a little bit of warping on it. Question how do you get that out short of cutting it out and filling it in with a bit of plastic? I heard if you run the plastic under hot tape water it will soften the plastic? I did order a new hull from Lindberg,but I would like to use the one I have,as I want to do a what if and turn the other hull into a U.S. Coast Guard cutter with some mods of course. Also does anyone know if there is a company out there that makes any hulls of a Casco class AVP (small sea plane tender U.S. Navy)from WW 2? Any help there would be most appreciated.

I had a similar issue with my 1/350 scale tamiya Bismarck hull was a little warped and the decks wouldn't lay flat.
Easiest solution for me was the wife's hair dryer not too much heat to damage the hull but just enough to allow the hull to gently be tapped down flat and straighten out.
Can't help on the other question regarding hull but welcome to mayhem :-))

Hi Umi I have used a hair drier to flatten out some warping in plastic, as soon as flat cold water 'sets' it. For small jobs hot water works well.
I have also used a hair drier to warm up a plastic model prior to paint spraying on cold days, stops the orange peel effect.

Thanks guy's, I'll have to try that and see what happens. :-)) Last time I used heat (from a light bulb)to dry some paint I sprayed on the deck of a C-130, I I melted the deck and had to cut the flight deck off and throw the rest out. :embarrassed:

I know that are some 1/350th scale models available but a hull suitable for radio control may be a tall order. The Barnegat class had a hull shape that wasn't hugely different to a DE (Destroyer Escort) such as the Evarts or Buckley Class. The shape is very similar but the seaplane tender is ever so slightly bigger. About 20 feet longer and about 5 feet wider than the DE. You might find a DE hull and build your seaplane tender to a slightly smaller scale. I think Deans Marine make a 1/96th DE hull. HTH

Ok thanks, but if you look at the stern of the Barnegat/Casco class AVP's, it's kind of rounded not squared off like the DE's.Going to take a lot of reworking O0 . Should be manageable tho. Thanks for the suggestion. I know of a site where I can get the deck plans :-)) .Cool beans my friend.

Or you might contact the Coast Guard who received a lot of the AVPs after the war. Check out this site

Thanks, served aboard the Unimak (WHEC 379) from '83-'86 started out in the forward engine room,Aux,and finally struck DC before going to DC school,but I'll check them out.
