That's a great interior, and top of pilot house detail.
Is that all scratch, or did it come in a kit?

She is coming along really nicely. The electroinics looks quite tidy, are those gyroscopes either side of the circuit board?
Title: Re: NEW TUG 2
Post by: tugnut on July 23, 2015, 09:02:04 PM
Thanks for comment, they are Micro Gyro controllers, Port Starboard and bow thrust.
Title: Re: NEW TUG 2
Post by: derekwarner on July 24, 2015, 01:48:29 AM
Hey tugnut........those large [assumed as] automotive ventilation fan motors are very powerful, relatively low speed, high torque, near silent & low current drain  :-))

I can understand Micro gyros being used to alter the trim of P & S stabiliser fins on a surface vessel...but did not see any reference to them in the thread

Did I miss something?........as you also mention a gyro for the bow thruster??................keep the great images coming...... Derek

Hi Derek, the speed controllers are from Mike in Scotland, they are called MICRO GYROS and are a very good unit.

Is the superstructure a kit or scratchbuilt? Those windows and particularly the framing is spot on and looks superb. If they are scratchbuilt would you care to give a rundown of how you achieved it.

Yes, go on John.

Title: Re: NEW TUG 2
Post by: tugnut on August 01, 2015, 08:51:35 PM
Hi Brian 56, yes it is all scratch built apart from the hull.
I cut out the windows and then used strips of plastic to make the frames it took all day to do but worked out in the end.
thanks for comments,i did the same thing on my other tug.

Hi John,
She looks great on the water and the build is ? what can I say SUPERB comes to mind. You have given me lots of idea's for my Portgarth build as in not going by the MMM plans/sketches (that's a bit of scouse sarcasm relating to the accuracy, chokes laughing, of the plans). I really like the colour scheme and have  a plan to finish my Norton cross in colours like your boat. Great work.
       Cheers, Faz. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

 No worries John,
What adhesive did you use to fix on the rubber fenders/ I plan to fit some to both the Norton cross and my Portgarth when it gets started. Love the colour scheme.
       Cheers,

The new John B cuts a nice shape through the water John, they are a nice hull.  I have a twin screw tug built on the smaller size hull which is built as the Sun Suffolk, cracking boat.

The new hull looks to be a beast, the only thing that I would say is that the placement of the wheelhouse on the John B looks every so slightly too far aft when you compare it to a Damen product.  Where you have placed it on the new one whilst in build looks a bit too far aft also..................maybe try it an inch or so further forward to see if it gives a more balanced look?

Not trying to teach a master builder how to 'suck eggs' Sir but just an observation, hope you don't mind. :-)

Cheers.

Darren.
