Hi All,
Some of you may have seen in my intro thread that I am looking to restore a model boat and almost scratch build another.
The problem is... I have no idea what my restoration boat is based on.
I've found the following picture that looks the same on ebay:

However I'm not entirely sure what type of boat it is.
The description is for a "Search Boat" however i'm unable to find anything similar.
I would post a pic of my own but with the deck house in 10 pieces due to age/damp/nearby fire it's not exactly in the best condition
Could anyone out there cast any light on what type of boat this is exactly and maybe share a picture or two of anything similar so that I can have a good reference of what to match it to (especially if you know the real design)?
Also, Has anyone ever used a mini solar panel to provide power for navigation lights etc? I was thinking of using them to provide power to the nav lights and desk lights to save the main battery for actual running and not have the lights run it down needlessly.

London based Police Launch would be my guess.

When I lived on the coast the local garage had a real one of these , and it was bought as a ex navy Liberty boat as we were led to believe ,that was in the late 50s early 60s ,
That's as much as I know,for what's it worth .

Your solar panel would have to charge a battery to supply the lights as when the lights are
needs it is dark with not much solar.
Lights don't need much from the battery.
Same as UBN
Police Launch as used on the Thames in bygone days.

In 25 years of Runs Ashore I Never had one of those as a liberty boat.
Had one alongside Tower Pier with us on a London visit.
It were crewed by bobbies.

This is from the Veron kit, a scale model of the Thames River Police launch. Kitted in the 1950s. Plans are still available on ebay. A full-size one still attends the Boat Race and can be seen on TV on those days. Has a suitable name which I cant remember, something like "Investigator" or similar. I did a variant with different cabin. I also did an original version powered by an ED Bee diesel when I was a teenager. No radio then, big wide circles or straight running if you had a mate at the other side of the pond ! Don't know if they knew what a solar panels was then, unless you read the Eagle of course. Good luck with the rebuild. Is it balsa or ply ?

Thanks Vintage, does Phil Smith`s son still sell his father`s plans ? Be a better place to purchase from IMHO.

:-)) Venon police launch,had one of these in the early 60s powered by a water cooled DC 0.75 Merlin diesel,they are lovely little boats go really well,worth restoring and a great find, just looking at it makes me want one again,Ray. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

Thanks all, found some better pictures and now I feel like i'm in for a long haul with the restoration as so much has been lost over time but it looks like it will be worth it.
I'm hoping that someone out there may have some nice pictures for me to see in order to build the inner cabin in a fitting standard and rebuild the deck house with all the correct styles etc.
As for the LED part, I'll mostly run my boats in the day so the lights will be more for show than actual use but running off an independent battery will definitely be my core choice as I'll be running the boats upto dusk at my local lakes.
I think it's a ply model but hard to tell under the paneling that has been fitted around the hull to give protection and water proofing etc, the panels will be coming off first to inspect the core and then rebuild from there on.
I'll hopefully be able to get some pictures up later on once I get round to taking some. I can then plan my rebuild from my pictures.

Would like one myself and I have the plans. The construction of the kit is to create the box and then build around it. This means that the V underwater part of the boat is sealed in. To give a nice performance you want about 20 watts of power (7.2 volts 2 1/2 - 3 amps) A 380 or 400 series electric motor and a small prop 30 - 35mm.
I would do as little as possible to it, just hide the electricals and radio gear. She should look very nice, any problems there is always someone to help on this forum. Have you looked on the Met Police web site?

Yes he does. I recently bought a et of plans for the 52" veron Fast Patrol Boat, having bought one for restoration of of Fleabay. When I find his email address, I will post it.
