Hi all, I was looking into getting a couple of these for mt HMS Eskimo build, & was wondering if they would be ok running on 7,2v as they say 6v, would the extra 1.2v burn them out etc ? Any info greatly appreciated Cheers Dan.

I posted the same question about 18 months ago and was told to only run them on 6v.

Possibly because they are heating the fluid to make the smoke, extra power may cause them to overheat or even catch fire, the latest ones use water, saw them at the Doncaster show

I run 2 of these in parallel off a separate 6v supply (4aa batteries) in my Solebay. The drive system then runs off 7.2v. Do you not have room for a separate small 6v supply and switch?

The only time we had smoke from Eskimos after funnel was when the Gas Turbine blew up :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
In normal running all you saw was a bit of heat haze.

Here's a very simple and relatively cheap unit to drop 7.2v to 6v or even less. BTW I ran a Seuthe S1 unit (the same thing in a different packet) on 4 x AA NiMh cells and had no problems with it. http://www.componentshop.co.uk/voltage-reducer.html (http://www.componentshop.co.uk/voltage-reducer.html)

Hi Dan, I haven't fitted smoke gens to any of my warships for the same reason as Ned said, I've always lived not far from Portsmouth harbour and over the years I've seen many various types of ships coming and going and don't recall ever seeing smoke being emitted, I have fitted one to my 1:48 tug, like wise I've seen these about the harbour and quite often emitting smoke in varying degrees, probably because their propulsion system was less sophisticated. :-))
