Title: Your suggestions please, gentlemen...
Post by: U-33 on September 28, 2015, 03:03:23 pm
In the continuing efforts to make room in my flat, I'm sort of thinking of selling the Motorflote, complete with its fancy carry box. I guess a good few of you guys have read the build log of it, so you'll all know what it's like.

So, my question is...what do you honestly think it's worth? If I do decide to sell it, it will be complete with everything, just less the Planet tx.

Please answer honestly, you'll not upset me in the slightest...

It really WOULD help your sale if you decided to .....it would be nice to see it on the water

The price for a Motaneva floated
would be a lot less than a motaflotin  {-)

Honestly, basically the cost of all the bits at list price bought for the build, plus the cost of all the bits based on current prices less say 5% per year up to 3 years for those items held in your bits box and used on the build, then, with an estimate on the amount of time spent less the time actually spent enjoying building at a rate you think is reasonable re-evaluated based on what that cost is as either achievable or unachievable, all added together and then re-evaluated as what you may have paid for it yourself if someone else had built it, so its a difficult question and without proof of concept ie floated, its price is markedly reduced.

EG (don't know how much they are), years ago at a ellesmere show the southport crew had US frigates / destroyers on show - arliegh's etc, the quality was equal/better to that of PSSHIPS creations, a couple of thousand - I don't know, if someones pride and joy came up for sale and they wanted x amount and the quality and craftsmanship was worth it - then you have to pay the going amount, if it's a billings etc kit, its not going to be in the same league as a GRP hull with a scratch built superstructure, if it is an airfix kit rc'd you would be very lucky to get very much - like an RTR.

So its a matter of what you want for it and what people want to pay, eg the skipjack on offer recently, ideal for me as i'v always wanted to do a sub - but - currently finances are not where they need to be and I've plenty of other projects to complete first - it is clearly worth more than what the seller is offering it for.

Like anything else it's only worth what someone will pay for it. Time spent on a hobby project like this has no value at all. You can't put it up for auction here but you could test the water so to speak on Ebay with a reserve on it. Maybe include a link to the build log so that prospective purchasers will have some idea of what they are getting and, as Dave says, you will do better if you can put up some photos of it afloat and in action. It could also be worth including a radio with it so it is literally ready to go which would make it a more attractive prospect to potential buyers.

It also needs to have something to push.
Otherwise it is a cross between a waddling duck
and a nodding donkey.
Trust me I had one :embarrassed:
Stick it on the bay with 75 to start
and if it don't go put it on here for
what you want and get knocked down
to a tenner.

When I was at weston park model show I was talking to someone at the Telford Model Boats stand he offered me one (pusher tug) for £30 he said it was rtr I just needed to add my TX & RX, as Colin says  it's only worth what someone will pay for it.

keep it mate, it doesn't take up that much space and also it's another load for your truck :-))

Thank you all for the comments...as usual, much appreciated.

Having had a rethink, I'll keep it...anyway, George said he didn't want to move, he's comfy where he is.

Andy/Ian...you're right, it would look good on the lowloader.

Only problem is the driver may get tugged (Yes I know) by the boys in blue if George is sat in the Flote while on the trailer.

Can he be lifted out to make it look more realistic?
