I have a Robbe Multi Switch Decoder, part number 8884. It is the receiving end of the system that goes in the boat and allows one channel on your transmitter to control six switches. Here's the deal--I am ordering a Robbe F-14 Navy transmitter, and am trying to figure out which module (that's the bit that goes into the transmitter) to buy.I see lots of different modules for sale on ships n things and other places, but don't match up--i.e. they all have too many channels (8, 12, or 16) and all but one of them is a mix of switches and proportional control. The closest match seems to be the "Multi Switch 16 Module 8084" which ships n things carries.I hope this is all making sense. My question is--can anyone tell me if I plug in the 8084 module into the F-14, will it work? i.e. the radio and transmitter will be able to talk to each other and I can control my six channels? Many thanks in advance!

You need the MultiSwitch 8 module #F1511. I've had a brief look around the Internet and haven't found one in stock anywhere. You might drop across one on E-Bay. I would very much hesitate before buying anything else to do the job - I doubt if it would.

from my knowledge of Robbe Multi Switches...
the 8884 is the very .. very .. very Old decoder, that was used during the time to "Terra Top" or "Mars" transmitters..
it was a 6 channel decoder..
the transmitter side of things was a 5 switch in a row, first switch had a yellow knob, and was two way, the others were just single thus the 6 channels..
since then Robbe / Futaba developed newer 8-16 channel decoders with switch and prop functions, thus the different types of transmitter side of switches and knobs..
there was a all inline version that came out for the FX versions of the Transmitters..
is this the Decoder in Question..? if yes, then you will probably not be able to find the Transmitter side of switches.. only place would be flee-bay

good look with your search... you will need it..

Thanks very much, guys. Looks like I'll be buying a new decoder....
Any one want to buy a 8884 Multi Switch Decoder? :embarrassed:

Tempting.... I actually use a terratop TX :)
-
Well, let me know if you'd like to buy it...I'm buying a newer module so won't be needing this one any more.
-
Thanks.... If I can track down the transmitter switch module then I will take it off your hands
Colin-D,
Would you happen to know the part number for the switch module. I have managed to find some pics of it but no luck with the actual part number
-
sorry... no I do not have the part number at hand.. it would be close to the Decoders number.. for example 8880
this would be the matching transmitter part to the above photo of the Decoder

Please read my posting above, chaps. The part number you want is F1511. There are times when I think I must be typing in invisible ink.................... ;D

sorry I must disagree Dave...
if Mr pbratten has the Decoder that I have shown in the photo then the F1511 should be incompatible..!
the F1511 is for the newer Decoders and sound modules...
but I guess I can be proven wrong..

There are five Tx modules there. Three of them are either Proportional or a mixture of Proportional and Switches; these three are all more than 8 switched channels, as is the fourth (8084) which has eight two-way switches and is labelled 16 channel. Only the F1511 has few enough switches for an 8 channel decoder, hence it's labelled 8 channel. I think you are correct about the 8884 being a very old unit, though.
I'm not that bothered either way about being right or wrong, m'duck - I just don't want the guy chasing the wrong unit and ending up wasting more money.

Hi Dave
that is the main reason behind my posts...
trying to figure out which decoder he has... there is also the very new Hub System..
I don't think that the F1511 would provide the correct modulation... so that the 8884 can understand to decode..
thus the second photo which shows the correct transmitter module associated to the 8884
no matter which way... m'duck
east midlands rule.. ;) :embarrassed:

Thanks for the responses guys
does anyone have a F1511 I can test? lol
-
The F1511 is not the originally corresponding encoder to the 8884 decoder.
Its from the ProMars times. But the original encoder will not work in the F14 since the ProMars worked with full battery voltage internally (9,6V), while the F14 is running on stabilized 5V.
BUT, If I remember correctly Robbe never changed the communication protocol which consist of 2 sync impulses +X channel related impulses and there is no parity bit or something else. . So theoretically the 8884 Decoder should work with all modern encoders.
If they have more switches, the decoder will just ignore the impulses at the end and will wait for the next sync impulses.
But thats just my guess, never tried it.
-
Btw.
I'd get one of the Weatronic or Poltermann switches.
They work definetly and are cheaper than just the Robbe encoder.
-
interesting......
It would be nice to add the extra functionality to the old terra top :) and as the old girl works flawlessly on 40mhz with the corona synthesised receivers its great for my subs.
I already have the linear slider module installed on one side (operates the turrets on my Tirpitz, but the switches would be handy to control the lights and camera on the deep rover when I build it

Okay...so question for you folks with the experience on radios, then:
Suppose I don't want to scour the internet for a Robbe Futaba radio. But, I do want to buy a 6 or 8 channel radio and then install a channel expander to add additional functions to a model.
What do you recommend??
-
Have a look at the turnigy 9 xr pro . Hobbyking us have the gimbles in stock to convert it to center off stick .it gives you the choice of modules , ie orange rx .
Cheers Aid
-
The modules on the 9X are transmitter modules allowing the unit to use different types of receiver
The robbe unit in this thread is a channel expander, it turns 1 normal channel into 6 switched channels so in essence a 6CH transmitter becomes 11 channel transmitter

Gary I've perhaps mis understood about the guy not wanting to buy the Robbie futaba now and I've suggested a cheapish nine channel :-))

Right you are...the turnigy unit is a fraction of the cost of the robbe futaba unit and accessories, seems like an easy decision.
Essex2visuvesi--follow up question, if i want to have multiple transmitter modules in the 9x, is that possible? Just trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to get a radio with 11-12 channels to control all the functions on my tug and future models as well.
Thanks!

My mistake.... yes for his case the 9x is a good value choice.
The taranis is nice too :)
If its just switching you need then the 9x with one of action electronics multi switchers might be an option

You could probably use something like this , but you have already nine channel , complete with a three way switch for use with a winch
:-)
Or use a couple of Dm's multi switches , off Component shop . Gary the tranis is nearly twice the price ,but it's probably twice the quality too

Still considerably cheaper than the equivalent Futaba system tho :)

Have a look at Carson reflex radios. They have a 6ch and a 14ch radio with only switched channels on top of the four prop channels. Then they have the 10ch ultimate touch radio with assignable channels to both switched and prop knobs and switches, programmable with many model memories and supplied parts to make both sticks centre.
You do all the mixing "ashore"!

Thanks for the tip...I ended up ordering from Hobby King a Turnigy 10 channel radio. Price is great, let's just hope that it works and is not so overwhelming...reviews seemed pretty good. Here is the radio: http://bit.ly/1FMMVCv

Hi, To the picture of the different Robbe Modules I can add that the 8413 Switch doesn't work with the 1513 decoder, so even newer items can't work together - even if the Manual say that it can!
By the way, on ebay.de there are quite a few modules for the Promars "system"

Do you know Wetronic? Their modules are great and affordable. https://wetronic.nl/webshop/multiswitch/multiswitch_ms16 (https://wetronic.nl/webshop/multiswitch/multiswitch_ms16)

Thanks.... exactly whay I have been looking for!
They even do an adaptor board for my aged terratop :)

Just contact him with your wishes and he helps you out with everything. I use his older switch and decoder and they are great. He is also developping his own transmitter.
