Title: Sanding sealer/brush cleaner

What's the best (and preferably most economical!) way to thoroughly clean a brush that's been used for sanding sealer?

I've always used dope, but my tin's just about empty and I don't really want to buy any more 'cos I no longer use it for its intended purpose.

Cellulose thinners, three times then hot soapy water.

Dont clean it, cut the brush handle in half, drill and tap the wood, drill the cap clearance, assemble together the 3 parts, fill up with sealant, job done,

Am I missing something here? How does this give you a usable brush?

Notwithstanding the suggested solution, if the brush has set hard then chuck it away. No proprietary brush cleaner will be better and cheaper than replacing the brush. For the future, buy a 5L can of 'Standard Thinners' from the nearest car paint supplier (e.g. Brown Brothers). It'll cost you around a tenner and last you for years. It'll clean just about anything.

Not a bad interpretation,   But basically, think of the wooden bit of the handle, with the tin lid in the middle of it, i use old jam jars,  keep sealer fresh for a long time,


Sorry if my suggestion was not clear, its the engineer in me, i think everyone thinks the same Lol!

I do not bother to clean them, I just throw them away. No I am not made of money, considering what you need to clean them with and having a very nosey granddaughter who always wants to know what granddad is doing in his house. I am not going to take the risk of storing anything too dangerous for her to find. The sealers themselves are on a very high shelf. Likewise all sharp stuff is stored in drawers on the walls of the shed, which as yet she can not reach.
