Title: Vic Smeed - Musketeer
Post by: CliveJ on October 27, 2015, 10:13:16 am
Looking for a bit of advice .......

Is there any advantage to be gained in adding some rails to the hull ? (1/8 or 3/16) will this help handling/performance ?

The boat has spray rails and a dagger plate both of which I have fitted

Thanks in advance

Clive

I built and competed with  Musketeer  in the  1970s  , I had spray rails  ,dagger plate and  a transom wedge  . included  was a Super Tiger 2.5cc,  it was a very successful design , fast  and  very manoeuvrable ideal for the type of events it was designed for .

Just to add a foot note on your Musketeer if you added rails under the hull the boat would become unstable at speed  owing to the rather shallow v form . The design was for F3  which in those days was high speed steering  so it had to be fast and turn exceptionally tight  with out slowing down but remain stable.

Thanks Bowwave - exactly the assistance I needed  :-)
Its my first build - made lots of aircraft over many years - this is my first venture on the water !

I have converted the Musketeer to a brushless set up, just the top deck to complete. It does seem very heavy for its size (perhaps having been used to aircraft) we shall see what happens once in the water !!

Thanks again Clive
