Does southport have any bring and buy sales? Auctions etc?
-
I dont think they do , but always a great show when i have been :-))

Hi everyone,
Sorry about the delay in reply but the PC gremlins got to my laptop and it took a few days to be sorted. I have spoken to our Committee and if you are coming to one of our open days to sell any items (please give me a PM first) we can set up a table for you to display them but as to looking after the goods and supervision that will be down to you. As a club we will not accept responsibility for any for losses (we had some grief helping out at haydock) but feel free to show your sale items as long as we its not 10 boats for sale the table will be small.
Cheers,
Faz.

Could I ask our learned members here about the Southport show.
I once visited the Southport Lifeboat Regatta some many years ago. I think it would be in the mid/late 1980's or even the early 1990's ( my memory is somewhat vague at times)
I came up to see a dear friend called John Docwra who used to judge the models and came from Norwich, and the picture I have in my head is a much much larger lake, that everyone sailed on.
I remember a gentleman sat astride a large lifeboat. It was huge, but it wasn't on the lake shown in the pictures.
Has the lake been changed or the venue been changed, and what has happened to the Lifeboat Regatta itself. I remember John coming up for a few years at that time. Does it still take place these days.
Jim.

The show that you're think of, The International Model Lifeboat Rally, used to be held on the Marine Lake in mid June, and organised until it's later stages by Des Newton.
The current location is OK as far as it goes but, nowhere as good as the Marine Lake to test ship handling skills and obtaining decent picture's and far more importantly - raising funds for the RNLI.

Yes i do miss the Lifeboat regatta on the Marine lake

Hi BSFMP,
The Southport show no longer takes place at the "Marine Lake" which I think is the one you are referring to, the photos show our relatively new pond which is located at the South end of Rotten row. The facility is owned by Sefton Council however that's as far as the ownership goes our club carries out all of the maintenance i.e. looks after the grounds and fences this job is carried out by our two groundsmen who do a great job for the club. The committee also muck in as required. Each year we have what we refer to as the Southport show but in real terms is the Woodvale festival of transport which takes places in mid June (see list of dates in first post) this takes place in Victoria Park which is at the North end of Rotten row near to Morrisons. It is definitely worth a visit on one of the two days with a lot to see, we organise the boat marquee and the small pond with boats for anyone to have a go on, all the proceeds go to our main charity Queenscourt hospice. If you need any more info just let me know. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Peter. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
-
Thank you Peter.
I seem to remember when I came many years ago it was near the promenade, so I presume it was the Marine Lake.
Jim.
-
The current location is OK as far as it goes but,
Where do they hold it now adays.
Thank you,
Jim.
-
After the event was moved to the Stockport club the name of which escapes me (Etherow) and run by someone else it eventually died; sad really because when Des ran it they raised enough to pay for and fit out two inshore boats, about £20k I believe.

Thank you Liverbudgie.
I do remember that there were many model lifeboats on the lake that Sunday.
If I remember rightly there was a none lifeboat model sail day on the Saturday.
It is such a shame that it seems to have folded after so many years of building it up into a fine event that drew hundreds of spectators from what I vaguely remember.
Such a shame.
But why did it go to another venue, and where is Etherow.
Thank you guys.
Jim.
