Title: Suppression query
Post by: sigfortunata on December 01, 2015, 08:55:15 am
This is probably a rookie question but, why do RC model boats needs motor interference suppression but RC cars do not.

I often run several cars at a time with my 2 stepsons and so long as I ensure the 27MHz frequency crystals are all different we have no problems.

I run my boat on 2.4GHz but the motors I bought for that already came with suppression fitted.

I ask because to save money I was going to fit a 500 7.2v motor from my car spares box into my next boat, but its not suppressed.

I sure someone will know the answer  :-))

Well, one reason might be that your cars tend to be quite close to you when you run them whilst boats can be several hundred yards away at times so the received signal will be weaker and more susceptible to interference.

Suppressor sets cost peanuts, just £1 from Component Shop http://www.componentshop.co.uk/motors/dc-motor-accessories

Hi, some brushed motors come with suppressors already fitted inside.
You should not get interference from brushed motors on 2.4 Ghtz anyway.

If you are using 2.4GHz you should have no problems
but iif you have a noisy (Rfi wise) it is good manners
to suppress if others around are still using 27/40.
