Title: Windermere steam launch Shamrock
Post by: Liverbudgie2 on December 11, 2015, 08:30:22 pm
I have just seen on the local Beeb news this evening the Windermere Steam launch Shamrock has been badly damaged, again, when the water level in Lake Windermere increased by several feet and crushed the cabin roof on the steel beams of her boathouse. This is the second time it has happened in the last five or six years.

Owned and restored over the last thirty or so years by Rodger Mallinson she will be repaired and sail again next year.

Rodger who is now 78, is a remarkable man and engineer and is well worth looking up on the net, here is a link to probably his most (in)famous event: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue_of_Roger_Mallinson_and_Roger_Chapman

Apparently he in the process of organising a steam event on Windermere in June, so that will one thing to look forward to at least.

Here she is along with her stable mate "Mosquito" in September 2013.
