Title: identifying paint
Post by: cos918 on December 22, 2015, 10:15:19 pm
Hi All
I am restoring some second hand models. The problem is I dont know what type of paint has been used. So when I come to repaint the models I want to avoid any paint reaction . Is there any way to identify what paint has been used ?

I can't help on paint identification but can recommend this stuff:-

Simply flat down the old paint, spray a layer of this followed by a coat of primer then paint with your chosen paints

get some cellulose thinners or similar and try a bit that is hidden....if it wrinkles up then the chance is that it is enamel....Keep the wet rag on it for a bit ......if the paint simply comes off then there is a darned good chance that it is a rattle can

I would still suggest a coat of isolator afterwards, just as belt and braces
