Title: RIP Lemmy...
Post by: U-33 on December 29, 2015, 06:51:46 am
Copied and pasted from Motorhead's official page on Facebook..

"There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.
We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.
We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.

Share stories.
Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.
Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister
1945 -2015
Born to lose, lived to win"

A true legend, I have a few of his albums here, the best of which is 'No Sleep Till Hammersmith'

A long and illustrious career from being a roadie in the 60's for the great Jimi Hendrix, throught the 70's with Hawkwind, up to forming and continuing to tour with Motorhead. He was the epitome of rock music, hard drinking (bottle of Jack Daniels every day!) hard smoking, drug taking rocker, a shame it took cancer to finish him off.

I wasn't aware of this gig until I went looking for 'Lemmy' stuff earlier https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU1WCgm-RQw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU1WCgm-RQw)
Stoke-on-Trent has much to be proud of...

Check out the Classic Albums videos, I think it was originally a BBC production (I may be wrong) but its a series being shown on Sky Arts channel. There was one of the series on Motorhead and Lemmy. It was very interesting especially detailing his early career. Really sad that only 3 weeks or so was the passing of Phil Philthy Animal Taylor, Motorhead will be no more.

Slash in your video was born in Stoke, again check out his video, Made in Stoke, another great offering.

I always knew the only way,
was never to live beyond today.
They proved me right, they proved me wrong,
but they could never last this long.

A kid once asked me, "Do you get hangovers?"
I said, "you have to stop drinking to get hangovers!" Lemmy Kilmister.

Yes; that was rather the point of the comment...but then again 'Ghost in the shell' was also from Stoke  :o . Older Mayhemmers will remember 'Ghostie' with mixed feelings, especially those of us in the model trade!  >>:-(
My IT guru, Huw, was a mate of Lemmy's and they always managed to fall into the same licensed premises whenever M'Head came to Rock City (where Huw is a prominent member of the stage crew). I once shared a can of Coke and a natter with Slash while he waited for the crew to unload G&R. Nice bloke, but not a trace of a Stoke accent!

And 1981 I was on honeymoon in Rhyl whilst Liverpool rioted and burned to the sound of The Specials and 'Ghost Town'

O, ye of little faith....  8)
It's a shame that nearly all of my heroes are now no more. Still, Jeff Beck is on Jules Holland's show later tonight; there's still some hope left!
