Sometimes when I quote, my reply appears inside the shaded box along with the quoted comment, and sometimes outside, below (which I think is preferable).
I haven't figured out yet how to control this.

Depends on where you insert your text - either before the slash quote
or after it :-))
-
or after it :-))
aaaaa
Aye, well, hmmm. Those a's were after the brackets round /quote, which is where I usually write my reply....I think.
It would take a fairly deliberate act to get before the /. I am over 50 though :-)) .

If in doubt.........................................leave a big gap :-))

I usually find that inserting a new line after the final ] of the /quote works. Unless I forget.

Just like I do when boat building! %)

Doesn't seem to work with Firefox...

My Firefox - maybe it's something to do with the settings or a side effect of Windows 10.

If you are quoting a large section of a big post then quite often the "box" is not large enough to show all the text and so the end is invisible below the box edge. You just have to scroll down to put your cursor below the quote
-
When I click on the quote box all I see is one instance of:
Colin
-
test quote text by typing in qu*te in square brackets
If this works I will need to do it manually
Colin
Edit: Now it has given me a two tone box - what fun!
-
what fun!
Is this repetition just a device to hit 8000 posts by Easter? If som I'm willing to sponsor you :}
If you look at 'what fun' you will note the font has gotten smaller. I keep having problems with it getting smaller and then something like 'size' usually appears and I have trouble putting it right.

Size 78% never appeared in preview

It's OK with Internet Explorer, but then IE keeps crashing.
(This is a non countable post!)

The functionality is electronically disabled when the text passes over the horizontal Tropic of Capricorn on its way down south, however it is re-established in the mid Pacific at the intersection point with the vertical International Date Line, but only in the direction of Hawaii
Accordingly I never use it {-)........ Derek

At some point the text has to turned over over so you can read it the right way up
-
Spare a thought for Martin, as Forum owner he has to read it from the other side of the screen. :-)

In this day of technological achievement, the forum software should be capable of automatically providing both options, namely one for the northern hemisphere and the other for the southern hemisphere. %) %) %) %)

The problem must be at your end because if we see a post by an Australian we see this:-
