Title: Advice on what Kit / manufacturer to try out next....
Post by: David_l_perry on January 24, 2016, 09:28:11 pm
I am about halfway through my third Model Slipway RC kit (Loyal Moderator) and am now thinking about what to have a go at next.

Initially I was going to get another Model Slipway Kit as I am very impressed with the kit contents and component quality.

But, I am now looking at trying something different and having a crack at a Warship of some variety as I have never done one.

I was looking at some of the Deans Marine kits and they look like the sort of thing I am after, but really I could do with some ideas on alternatives and any feedback on Deans Marine stuff.

I want to find something that is similar in content to the Model slipway stuff, ie, good GRP hull, and all the plastic / fitting to complete the kit (other than electrics paint obviously)

No preference on type of boat at this time - but probably some sort of destroyer.  Only thing I am looking for is something around 800-1200mm long and kit price between 200-300 as a starting point

Any and all advice appreciated

Cheers

Dave

I'm afraid to say you cannot really rate the slipway models the same as deans.
The Slipway models are a lot better, the deans can be made into a good model
But it will take a lot more work than what slipway models do.

Agreed. Deans are very good for the price, I would be very happy to start another one anytime. The downside is they need more work, especially on the fittings. But, I like modeling, so that doesn't bother me.
I suggest you choose a model you like and enjoy the build, whatever the make.
My last one was the Emden, it takes work, but builds into a wonderfull model to see and sail.

For something different try speedlines  LCM3,  or converting one of the italieri 1/35th scale boats. Loads of photo etch for uprated detailing etc

The deans marine HMS Cossack keeps grabbing my attention.   Good size and looks to be enough detail to keep me happy.

The LCM is an interesting idea, and one I actually hav full plans for as a scratch build for my 1:16th tanks.  Thats one I would be happy to try as a scratch build as its a failry simple structure.   I actually just found all the motors, props and shafts I previously bought for the project - another time for that one.

I assume there must be a few other manufacturers worth looking at ?  Its a shame model slipway dont do any  ok2
