Does anyone know if the RMS Empress of Russia had Steel or Wood or painted wood or a mix for decks when she was used in WWII?

Don't know for sure, but there was a standard scheme for merchant ships, especially troopers. This consisted of two shades of grey MSS (Merchant ships side) and MSD (Merchant ships deck). As in most warship camouflage mast and funnel tops were white.

Aha! Just looked her up and realised that she was active in both world wars. She was indeed a trooper in the second, but an armed merchant cruiser in the Great War. In the latter case she may well have been dazzle painted. Which period are you interested in?

Hi there thanks for replies, am at early stages and interested in her as either, havent made my mind up yet
The dazzle camo does look tempting though......
Interestingly theres a pic on her wikepedia page that claims its a shot of her bows showing the 2 deck guns, im sure the pic is wrong tho and not of the Empress of Russia, none of the details are on some pics i have that i know are correct.
The finish of the decks will probably be what makes up my mind.....

The decks in WW1 were presumably as built. By 1941 they should have been MSD all over, wood and all. The snag is that I've never been able to find out just what sort of greys MSS and MSD were. Guy Hartcup mentions that there was in fact a Light MSS introduced as a result of the success of the Western Approaches scheme.
