Title: Last SRN4 Hovercraft at risk of being broken up.
Post by: Colin Bishop on January 29, 2016, 10:47:17 pm
Picked up this link on another site. Having clambered all over one of these giants it would indeed be a shame if they were to both be destroyed.

Just signed the petition. Hope she gets saved, I didn't visit Dover until after they had retired and wished I had.
I bought my Dad a book for Christmas about the HoverLloyd story and how they were designed and operated the SRN.4- Dad was truly impressed and wished he had the chance to go on board when they were in service.

As the engines have all been removed , you would have thought he would just give the Museum the Hovercraft.

Can anyone confirm or correct my memory that I used to see one laid up and slowly being taken to pieces on Wooton Creek, Isle of Wight, in a yard just behind the Fishbourne Ferry Terminal?  I used to sail there regularly and seem to remember this from around the mid 90s.

The problem is the museum wants them, but the land next to the museum on which they are kept has been sold or going to be by a quango, to a land developer for housing. Its a Tory council like mine and our local council has declared it wants to build on all green spaces to comply with the Governments demand for new house builds.
