Must be something big on on the Otterburn Ranges. The artillery has been banging away all morning.

Denial of anything unusual but then they would say that O0
-
Ubique - I love that word! But I was no Gunner! O0
-
UBIQUE
QUO FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT
It may be thunder they heard %) %) AKA Thunder of the Guns.
Better the noise of your own guns than some one else.

Too true
It's a bit different on a RAF airfield, you can take off most hours of the day and night, but if the engineers want to run an engine after 10 at night we have to ask the station management for permission to make sure we don't wake up the neighbours!

They never used to worry about us civvy folk in Lincoln when they were running up the Vulcans at RAF Waddington. :-)
-
Vulcans are exempt from any noise restriction. :}
-
They're a bit more considerate these days, too many people don't want to hear the roar of the RB199!
-
Mores the pity, what an aircraft!

The Artillery and Engineers Corps have a common background, hence both have UBIQUE (everywhere) as their Battle Honours.
Artillery is a Corps even though it is named a Regiment, The Royal Regiment of Artillery,(RA) as is The Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery,(RAA).
Also the Officers collar badges are very similar, a close inspection reveals that the Engineers (RE) have two extra flames to their bursting bomb badge. It is common for the badges to be mistaken one for the other.
Artillery (RA) is the only Corps to have all insignia incorporated in their badge,
Battle honours; UBIQUE
Motto; QUO FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT
Colours; The gun
.

Quite correct about the grenade 'flames' Gunner. :-))
The Corps of Royal Engineers here in the UK is a full Corps arm of the British Army, whereas the Royal Artillery is a Regiment with its own regiments within it.
The RE and RA were both formed from the original Office of Ordnance of 1414 (later the Board of Ordnance) which was responsible for all engineering and artillery matters.
One thing I must be proud to mention regarding battle honours! The Corps of Royal Engineers is unique that it has no need to wear battle honours as it has fought in every campaign the British Army has fought since 1066. The traces of The Kings (or Queens) military engineering can be traced right back to Alfred the Great.

We live 23 miles from the Otterburn ranges and it was rattling pictures on the walls
(and that is on a 2 foot thick stone wall) - never heard it that loud even when we lived closer
to the ranges
