Hi Chaps.
Could some of you possibly answer a couple of questions re theRMS Empress of Russia
http://files.balancer.ru/forums/attaches/2015/04/20-3813041-r.m.s.-empress-of-russia-and-other-ships1.jpeg
In the photo in this link ( dont know how to do photographs online)
What colour would the superstructure be? If the hull is light grey, it must be quite dark.....?
Are all the bits on top of the superstructure Carley floats?
Does anyone have any good pics of this ship in Dazzle camo?
-
The first two images of the Empress of Russia would appear to depict a black hull with white or cream superstructure
The second set are referenced as in war service, although I find no dazzle paintwork

Sorry , forgot to paste the link!
Have modified original post to add link......

Derek, the Print Screen button (on a PC) copies whatever you have on the monitor. Opening any graphics program and clicking paste will allow you to save an image without all the bars.

More likely a white hull I guess.
They appear to be the normal ships lifeboats.

Found this picture in A Shipyard At War book of the Empress of Russia as completed being towed down the Clyde.

The items in your link could be American carley floats I believe they were squarer than British ones.

Birth and death of a fine ship.
1. Launched 1912 at Fairfields in 'sunny' Govan.
2. After fire at Barrow 1945 before she was scrapped.

Such a sad end to such a beautiful ship. <:(
I've got a book called Liners at War but unfortunately the Empress of Russia isn't included- just in case anyone thought that the book might. To be honest the only things I knew about her was that she as a troop carrier in WW1 as she had a narrow escape from the SMS Emden which was being more worried about the HMAS Sydney catching her, and the other that a 1/72 scale was available from Fleetscale (I believe).
-
She had a fine record of service at sea in many fields. She was even home to Prince Philip when he served on her as a Midshipman during WW2.

Wow, fantastic info guys, many thanks please keep it coming....
