My next model is going to have steerable korts.

Is there any preference as to makes of bought ones or can you make your own with suitable size tube. (or bent brass strip)
Do they need to be tapered or have an aircraft wing profile?

        Hi Frank, out of my experience, buying a steerable Kort from a recognised manufacturer, (MMM for example) and using a suitable prop (Prop shop or Sitek) makes the world of difference, otherwise a plain tube is nothing more than a shroud for the prop. We gained at least 25% extra power using a Kort and then when using a correct prop a noticable increase in thrust, perhaps as much as 25% again. If you were to read any article on the web about Kort history and design you will certainly think carefully about fitting the best. All in all, it is a sad thing to build a beut of a vessel then for it to be let down by lack of power and maneuverability, all for the want of a few extra £££. Also consider if the original vessel was or had been converted to Kort. Although in my small opinion ( a confirmed tug aholic) what goes on inside and below the water line is my business as long as it does the job and I can smile.

Why dont you go the ASD route ?,excellent units and just so happends i've got 2 i was thinking of selling

Hi Nige, yes they're brand new with 60mm props plus 2 spare props with each unit.

hi all asd is good but not that powerfull and will let you down on a windy day or if you pull anything near scale length to your tug. from experience mmm Kort's work very well indeed i have made my own in the past and although good they were always piped at the post also they look good in most hulls. but this is only my opinion. :)

Hi, not found any problems with ASD's though they do tend to drag weed in quickly if in the area, as for power output in towing 'we' capt jack and myself have had no problems. Shannon / Tito Neri both ASD tugs and both pull / push scale size craft very well.

   Warsash have some 4.5 tonn teaching models and the tugs will move them with ease, if I find a photo or two I'' post on here.

 Hi Catengineman,  If you are intouch with Warsash is it Possible to ask them if thy have any old hulls for sale
 what would do for our pond for towing.

Hi, The last time I was talking to the chaps they were altering a tanker to look like a car ferry, you know big ugly box type ship.
As for 'old hulls' I would think that is going to be a "no" answer as the vessels are taken out of the water every year and refurbished or altered for the training programs the following year.
I will ask though.

Transporting 4.5 tonne to a pond? and an average length of 2 cars.

Oh yes, these "models" are about 4.5 to 5 ton, they have 2 pupils in them and very impressive.  Warsash have a marked channel and some berths for the pupils to practise on.
There was a piece on them a while back on Supermodels on Sky.

Hi Poll, sadly not, going be on the ship then.

Wish I'd been home would of loved to had a go . Won the tug towing championship with SWAMBC last year.  Not home for any events this year   :(

Well, I've got my 2 ASDs from Capt Jack, thanks Steve.
Now what should I put them on?
 I was thinking of a MMM Anglian Man, but not sure if there's enough room under the deck , they need 6cm.
Anone got one? can you tell me the space under the deck?

Bryan at MMM says Euro Girl is not out yet.
I wonder if I could do the same arrangement with a Nangee.
I suppose it needs a fairly flat bottomed hull?
