Title: FUSES

In a simple setup such as Battery - Esc - Motor, where would you prefer the fuse to be located? Between battery and esc or between esc and motor. Or even both ie between battery and esc and a second fuse between esc and motor?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Between battery and ESC,polarity does not matter but most people put in the + red line............Ray.

(I must be dreaming, but I'm sure this came up no more than a couple of weeks ago.)
Always between battery and ESC; +ve wire by convention. Optional between motor and ESC. 
Then again there's some as don't use 'em at all!

Why don't we use the resettable fuses that are available?

These will protect the circuit and will reset when power is removed. The controller board (Ramps1.4) on my 3D printer has 2 of these on board, one for 10A and the other for 15A. They do need air flow over them for cooling as they will cut if they overheat.

1. Price (approx ten times that of an auto blade fuse).
2. No in-line holder available

Fuses - I would always recommend two - one rated at or just above the full load current of the motor between the motor and the ESC and one one size up between the ESC and the battery.


Polyfuses - OK but it won't tell you where the fault is - or even that there is a fault - is it that the polyfuse is tripping or is it that a connection has gone open for example.
