Title: Scale size when you up the plan dimentions

Right you clever lot out there,if I get a tug plan which at the present is 1/30th which gives a hull size of 770mm and up the hull size to 1145mm which is one and a half times the original size,what scale would the tug end up cheers Stavros

What I did is multiply 770 by 30, then divide the answer by 1145 gives you near as damn it 20,
so my answer is 1/20 th   ???

Sounds dammed logical to me but as I am not a logical person(Robert carefull !!!!)but it sound good any other bright ideas Stavros

Near enough right, but your initial maths isn't! One-and-a-half times 770 is 1155, not 1145, which will give you exactly 1/20th.

As stated above it's 1/20th. Try this for size (pun intended):

1/30 x 3/2 (that's 1 and a half as a vulgar fraction) give 3/60 = 1/20.

this method will work for any variation although some results will be neater than others depending on the input.

Hi I agree, use fractions, it's much easier. I was just about to post the same, decimal may be easy for some things but give me fractions any day.

Weeeel, 770 x 1.5(1 1/2)=1155. now i know that only makes 10mm difference, but it can make a difference. not being pedantic, just want to make sure my adled brain hasnt totally crapped out.
also, if the scale is 1/30th, wouldnt one and a half times bigger be 1/15th. Pleeese tell me where my thinking has gone wrong.

That will give a scale of 1:20,
Worked out like this: 30x770mm = 23100mm
23100/1145 = 20.17

hence scale is 1:20th.

It works for me anyway!

1:15 is twice as big as 1:30

30 divided by 2 = 15

Doug your calculation should have read 30/1 x 2/3 = 60/3 = 20 therefore 1 : 20

ooooooops, had a very bad day yesterday. single brain cell couldn't handle the simplest of tasks at work, obviously rolled over in to R&R time. realized walking home.
