The Blackpool Model Boat show will be held on October 22/23 at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool.....
The show is being run by Iain Lewis of Component shop and Me....and hosted by the Blackpool Model Boat Club
Right then the Hotel has recently spent a considerable amount of money on the bedrooms and believe you Me having seen them they look 100% better, new Beds,New carpets and being repainted....they are in the process of renovating the whole hotel....
Yes the lighting issues of the past look like it has been resolved with new lights gone up in the hall.....WE have already pointed out the Main issue and that is of course the Gents and they have promised us faithfully to do something about it....I Have a cunning plan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right then a little insight into this years show....YES of course it is and allways will be a boat show......and here lies the BUT......as you can imagine booking such a venue is rather expensive and as the list of traders are getting smaller and smaller with retirements we have to look elsewhere.
So our plan is to invite Radio controlled Cars,Trucks and Tanks to display their wares and also traders....we rather hope a truck club might be able to set up a roadway to show off the trucks...........And poss the cars...let alone a Tank Display.....if anyone on here knows of any clubs in this field then PLEASE let me or Iain Know....our ultimate goal is to have planes and railways as well to make it into a Boat and Model show............
All Info will be on our Website
http://www.blackpoolmodelboatshow.co.uk
This is already live and will be updated as soon as Info becomes available.......obviously we will have a traders and Club booking page .
We also Have a Fb page
https://www.facebook.com/groups/226342181059519/
Please feel free to link both the website and Fb page to your clubs as more we spread the word the better the show will be.
Adverts for the show will be in the Mags as soon as poss

No excuse for me not to go, regards, Dave.

Hi Stavros , That,s a great idea to make the show more of a hit , i go every year but have seen it get smaller , this could be the solution , i hope you and Ian succeed .

Dates for 2017. I have a colleague who has to submit dates for time off 15 MONTHS in advance !
Any chance of next year's dates.
Sorry to be difficult, but the Post Office is an inflexible employer.
Cheers Jim
-
We won't be able to give dates for 2017 until after the show this year. There are a number of factors that could influence exactly when the show will be, but mostly it is down to the fact that this year it is on the first weekend of half term, which works well for some & not so great for others, so I am intending to listen to feedback from those involved to see if the date needs to move away from half term or not.

{-) {-) {-) {-) {-) Very good Martin!!!! O0 O0
-
There seems to be a lot of it about. Yesterday the alternator on my van decided it wasn't going to be an alternator any more & today the one of Stavros's car did the same thing, oh the joys of motoring....
Still, these challenges are not stopping things, Stav is at the Norbreck, the tables have arrived, pool has arrived & I have given Stav a large (coloured) drawing of what goes where so all should be well. Looking forward to an interesting weekend.
-
Looks like my wicked plan to curse the alternators of every trader's vehicle at this show is working! Linkspan next!!! <*<

Hello,
I visited the Show today and was pleasantly surprised.
The Hall was very well lit, the earlier shows were rather gloomy, but this time it was very well laid out, with lots of Traders and boat stalls.
Boat Clubs were displaying their members boats, with members ready to answer any questions.
There were displays by other modellers too, Trucks, Tanks, little models of amazing quality, lots of things of amazing detail - - all made by Modellers !.
A very enjoyable experience - - -Well Done !!.
Looking forward to next Year.
John. :-)) :-)) :-))
-
I have to agree with Baloo what difference from last year.Top marks to Component Shop/Stavros.
Stan. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
-
Thanks Ian n Stav,
Looks like we are back to where we need to be! Better layout and the Lorries and especially the Tank display made the day. Well done everyone, a big thanks from us.
Pete n Steve. SMBC.
-
ALL mayhemers come and say hello as pound to a pinch of xxxx i wont recognise you
Dave
I said hello and you DID recognise me, along with the sorcerers apprentice !!!!
Must say that the show this year was such a vast improvement on earlier years. Better lighting, better layout, more things to see. Only flaw was, to mis-quote the jaws movie, we're going to need a bigger pond!!!! {-) {-) {-)
Well done Ian and Dave, even the weather was nice.
-
Feed back from some our club members that attended today.Vast improvement from last year and they will be back in 2017.
Stan
Kirklees Model Boat Club.

What can i say apart from WELL DONE the show was 100% better than last year ,
:} :} :} :} :} :} :} :} :} :} :} :}
-
I am at the show as an exhibitor, and would like to add my thanks to Dave Stavros, and Ian,for taking over the reins.Lots of old friends, lots of new faces, lots of new models,I have always liked this show but this is the best one yet.A great idea to add new types of models, maybe next year even more?
It is a long trek up from Cornwall, but to me it is worth it.
Good to meet Stan, and Ian,for the first time, and some of my old acquaintances,to natter too.
Hope the numbers of visitors will encourage the show to go on for many years to come.
In a word?
BRILLIANT
Thanks to all,not forgetting the Blackpool club for laying out all the tables and chairs.
Aye,
Mick
-
Massive thanks to the organisers, I'm with the tank club and we got loads of space, carpet down, absolutely fantastic!
-
Oh here we go, %)everybody slapping each others backs 8) but not once was it mentioned that the traders would be emptying my Wallet !!! >>:-( <*< >>:-( <*< :police: :police:        :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
Seriously... After the last few years of in my opinion the show slipping down , This year has seen a complete reversal , Good walking areas, A good atmosphere.. I can only Congratulate Component Shop, Stavros and Co. for pulling this back from the brink. Hopefully the team will decide to run it next year as well and preserve one of the Northwest long running events.
-

Good mng from a dry day at Blackpool
Dave
-
I went Saturday, got to say, its a really nice show. Plenty of space so you can get to the stalls, loads of traders, nice to see different clubs other than the usual North West ones, and seeing the different RC Disciplines was nice. I took several items to the bring and buy and sold the lot! (Now I need to change my name, I sold my little scamp boat that was red, with number 181 on it)!
Regarding parking, It's Blackpool during half term and the lights, it's a working busy hotel, so it's busy, I went round the back of the hotel and parked on grass, there is an entrance to the show from the back, but not sure if its traders only? anyway, you will arrive at the entrance desk. :-))
You can bring in items to sell at any time, so if you are after a bargain, keep looking at bring and buy all day as items arrive at any time.
Well Done Dave, you have created a very nice relaxing friendly atmosphere, I bet other traders and clubs will be kicking themselves not going. One note, next time, if its dry, ask the tank guys to go outside on the grass at the back, that would have been real cool to see :}
-
Hi All,
Wow what a difference from last year , A great variety of models
Also free entry for children (that helps promote our hobby )
Thanks to Dave ,Ian and all their helpers for a great show
Spud and kids

Only one person missed in the thank yous. SUSAN did a hassled job very well. Thank you.
Gosh what a difference a year makes, Thanks all.
Jim W :-) :-)) :-))

Concur will all previous comment's. The only downside was the racket the tanks made but that was rectified by moving back into the main hall.

Stavros, i was one of the wingers from 2 years ago, mister you have turned this show on its head, BRILLIANT, this has to be the best show in the north, so much better, more room and with the trucks and tanks such a diverse modeling community. Hope you will run again next year. When the word gets round there should be a que at the door both with traders and modelers.
Once again congratulations on a great show
Mark
-
Well......Just got home after a fairly long drive and a stop-off for a bite.
This was our first Blackpool Show as Linkspan Models and we have to say it was a cracker :-)) . We have no experience of the earlier shows but we would like to extend our thanks and best wishes to Stav, Iain and their whole Team for putting on an enjoyable show - well laid out, lit and presented. If the list is open for next year guys - put us down as attending :-)) :-)) :-)) .
For us, the success of the Show was not measured in how many sales we made. For us it was all about meeting new and old Friends, introducing ourselves to a 'new' part of the country....and just having a damn good time!!!! We had many visitors pay us a visit and extend their compliments on the idea and venture of the ferries - and yes, we managed to sell one or two as well!!!!! ok2 ok2 :-))
I am reliably informed that the same impresarios are in charge of the Coalville Show..........should be another good un then!!!!!
Well done all...
Carl & Flo
Linkspan Models
PS - And yes....a suggestion.......a slightly bigger pool?????? Maybe?????
-
I must agree with the previous posts, I have attended the Blackpool show for years and this
Last one was by far the best, better layout, better lit, more model variety a must for me again
Next year, well done Ian,& Stavros and anyone else who helped set up the show, you get better
With each show you organise, thank you. :-))
John
-
well just to add what a improvement on the last show.100% better than last year so a very well done to those who organized it.Will defiantly be back next year
-
What's pleased me was the number of kid's that were about looking , that's got to be a good thing , there's hope yet . . . .
Well organized event , keep it up . . . .
Bill
-
Well what can I say?
I informed Stav last year I doubted very much I would be back, as it was no longer worth travelling the few hundred miles to attend.
After hearing a change of organisers for this year, I decided to give it one last go.........best decision I made all year.
The show was a huge improvement on last years, So very well done to Ian, Stav and all the local lads from Blackpool and Fleetwood for making the show such a success, hopefully the positive feedback by forum members will encourage more clubs and traders to attend next year.
Well done everyone :-))
-
Good to see you again Bri :-)) :-)) :-))
Great endorsement for the show and am glad you felt it worth the while travelling all that way to attend - great example!!!!
Carl
-
Jim Worner mentioned the efforts of the Bring n Buy crew who did a truly fantastic job over the weekend.
Apart from all the efforts of the BFMBC and FMYPBC club members setting up the halls to allow the show to start, I would like to add a big "Thank You" to the customers. Why? Because today I had the privilege of visiting the Blackpool and St Annes Lifeboat stations and handing over cheques for a total of £940. £700 was from sales commissions at the bring n buy, £240 was from the donated sale items, largely from the shed of one of our members, Bob Turner (known as Beachcomber on here) who we sadly lost earlier this year.
I'm a bit biased - it was my daughter running the B n B, and I am the chairman of BFMBC.
Hopefully, with good fresh ideas coming in, and hopefully a few more clubs and maybe traders appearing and/or returning, the show can get back on its proper track and get better yet.
-
I stopped attending a couple of years back.
Judging by the reports I have missed a cracker
this year
It is so good to have all positive posts about it.
Well done to Everyone involved in the success
I will be there next year.
Ned
-

Over the course of the weekend I have received so many "thank yous" from clubs, traders & visitors, it really is overwhelming.
I would like to thank the members of the Blackpool & Fylde model boat club for having faith in me when I suggested that the show should be opened up to include more than just boats, without those guys (& girls) it simply would not have been possible.
I would also like to thank all the traders who put their faith (& money) in this idea & all the exhibitors (clubs & individual) for also taking the chance that changing the show around as I was proposing would actually work - after all, this year the date, venue & format all changed from last year.
Thanks too for Dave (Stavros) Jones, for all his efforts during set-up & during the show itself, as I was tied up much of the time on our trade stand, Dave's help was invaluable.
Of course there is also a big thank you to all the visitors, had you not come along, it was going to be a very expensive weekend for me!
So the Blackpool show is over for 2016 & whilst it seems that everyone(?) was happy with things, I am by no means complacent that there are not improvements to be made & will be working on making the 2017 show even better - I have already booked the Norbreck Castle Hotel for the 21st - 22nd October 2017. Any constructive comments are most welcome, but rather than clutter the forum with such chatter, please send comments to info@blackpoolmodelshow.co.uk
I am now working on the bookings for the 2017 Coalville Model Boat Show (1st & 2nd April 2017 see www.coalvilleshow.co.uk) but in a few weeks I will also be sending out info for the 2017 Blackpool Show. I have basic contact details for around 160 clubs across the UK, sadly around 80% of these do not reply to e-mails, so it may be that the contact details on their web sites are out of date. If you are interested in receiving details of either the Coalville or Blackpool shows, as a trader, club, or just as a visitor, just drop me a line to the e-mail address above.
Thanks to all once again for making it a great weekend.
