One pigeon did this to my car on Sunday, whilst driving at 60mph!

Must admit, damn pigeon made a perfect bombing run!

That pigeon ... after releasing that amount of a bomb load, it must have shot up 100 ft vertically!

One 2.2m HMS Agincourt, and I understand there could be several others.  Possibility of live gunfire between dreadnaughts.  Looking forward to seeing your Atlantis  :-)

Given the recent amount of interest in 'traditional' kits and cabin cruisers is is worth having a Convocation of Faireys or even cabin cruisers generally?

a Convocation of Faireys

I thought it was a model boat show not a dolls tea party  %) {-) {-)

note: off to look up what Convocation means  ok2

EDIT: Convocation:

noun
1. a large formal assembly of people, in particular:

2. the action of calling people together for a large formal assembly

nice useable word is that, but seldom fits into my daily vocabulary...ÖÖ.a little like "panache". Another word that I like immensely, but rarely get to use, especially when describing myself, lol. [thought I'd get that point in before Colin does  {-) {-) {-) ]

Well, Mayhem is a large assembly isn't it? Anyway, can't have the awful Rees Mogg having a monopoly on all the best words.
I do think a 'cabin cruiser' parade would be a good option even if some of them do have a rather sporty performance.

The late Alan Rayman (of my jolly old club.....celebrating 90 years...not me the club) built a model of that craft back in the 60's...
Meanwhile we (steamboat apprentice inc) will once again be glamping next year, and will finally have my flash steam radio controlled ( hummmmm) boat with me....clear lake please, because me and radio don't get on, knowing my luck this bl**dy thing will go straight  {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)

What a time for a wedding......still I have heard the Mayhem is not only a great boating weekend but a perfect honeymoon spot.......just saying.... :}  north of the boarder lot !!!!!

Looking forward to this year, we are in the process of sorting everything out at the parks end with regards to the camping and the usual.

Iím going to put the ad in the Model Boats magazine diary so the whole community knows the what, where, and when.
Once again we are having a Springer battle for those wishing to take part, the Secret 10 are doing a thing again- find out what on the Saturday afternoon!, and I think we were discussing a few months back about a Fairey fleet of Huntsman, Huntress and Swordsman. Would everyone like to me to mention this in the ad? And will people bring them along for the weekend if we do?  I know we donít tend to have 100% organised events for the weekend but if I mention it are we going to have an uptake of members sailing or displaying them?
Itíll be a month before I send it off to the editor so Iíd appreciate some feedback of ideas and anything youíd be interested in bringing. :-))

If I remember correctly (Klunk will have the full set of rules) it was a standard sized springer hull made from either balsa or foam. No reinforcements such as GRP etc. No projectiles or explosives to be used as weapons. 500 motor with a maximum of a 7.2v battery. I think that was it. It was a good laugh last year! %%

Hi Dan

Gllad you are planning to make the pilgrimage!

We have a harbour area with two docking berths that are used for launching and tethering models when you need a rest. If you need a lift there are plenty of us who will give assistance and we have club trolleys for moving them from the car park to the lake.
Hope this is of help.

Oh well, we will have to drink that tea they bought them with last year- whisktey I think it was called- I had a few sloe gins by that time though! ;)

On a positive note, every thing is going ok at this end and the new events manager is being very helpful. Should be advertisied not only on Wicksteed Parkís website but on their Facebook page too. The campsite has been booked (ie reserved ) for us and the usual discount will be happening- just finalising so for once we have everyone at the park knowing what is happening and when.
We are going to have a limited amount of tables so four will be reserved for Martinís tent and the Scottish Lads. The remaining 16-ish will be available too but to a first come first served basis.
Advert going in Model Boats this week so bring your Fairey Boats! :-))

Afraid so....
To clarify Davy asked me to marry him but my good lady was a much better offer  :-))

I have discussed the possibility of going to mayhem for the honeymoon but she could accommodate:
The lack of sunshine, the lack of sea (apparently the pond or lake doesnít count), even the accommodation details she felt could of made the honeymoon unique.

BUT
Thought of sharing a field with all of you was just too much for her  {-) {-) {-)

Hopefully normal
Service will be resumed in 2020  :-))

Role up, role up

The great Mayhem at Wicksteed experience is happening May 25 and 26 or to those on old time - Whitsun Bank holiday weekend.

Confirmed by the park management we are most welcome, and anyone wishing to use the campsite (a section will be cordoned off for Mayhem use) a £10 off per night per tent/caravan/motor home discount is being ratified by the park. To take advantage of the discount please quote that you are with the Model Boat Mayhem.
Please note: please give the park until the end of next week to book your campsite space to allow for the park to open fully and all the reception staff to be briefed by the park management. The phone number is: (01536) 512475 (https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/tel:(01536)%20512475) please donít use the online booking system if you wish to use the discount.

For those you have camped before, reception has moved from the wooden conservatory building to a rather plush reception desk in the centre of the main buildings complex, you canít miss it as it has automatic sliding doors and is below the glass balcony area.

We will have a limited number of tables for our use, first come first served, but if you have a table of your own we ask that you bring it.

Lots of fun to be had, even if we get the infamous Northamptonshire vertical mist! :D

Watch this space from the likes of me, Klunk, steamboat Phil, and Martin for future announcements regarding special demonstrations being organised for the weekend.

See you there! :-))

Courtesy of Wiki ...[is my thought correct?]

Codetta (Italian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_language) for "little tail", the diminutive (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diminutive) form) has a similar purpose to the coda, but on a smaller scale, concluding a section of a work instead of the work as a whole. A typical codetta concludes the exposition (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposition_(music)) and recapitulation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recapitulation_(music)) sections of a work in sonata form (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonata_form), following the second (modulated (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modulation_(music))) theme, or the closing theme (if there is one). Thus, in the exposition, it usually appears in the secondary key, but, in the recapitulation, in the primary key. The codetta ordinarily closes with a perfect cadence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_cadence) in the appropriate key, confirming the tonality. If the exposition is repeated, the codetta is also, but sometimes it has its ending slightly changed, depending on whether it leads back to the exposition or into the development (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_development) sections

well a few weeks to Mayhem....and the list of things to do grows longer!! Not sure how though.
Hopefully if things go well, I have several boats going up for sale, a few motors and some books. Types of boats are trawler, a couple of warships (hachette Bismarck, never sailed, as its my shelf queen), some yachts and maybe a hovercraft, a submarine (darnell), a very rare hydrofoil and anything else I can find.
Also, will be bringing the Atlantis for anyone who fancies a go!

major problem encountered.  sunday morning i was up bright and early......5am, and thought, I know, I will get my Atlantis out and have a shake down sail before Wicksteed.
so went to rollerskate (aygo) put rear seats corn and sorted junk out. went to shed and got the sails out then the hull. just before my side gate, we have a table so i put her on the table and think, let's change the battery while I'm here, it's easier than doing it lake side.  so  i take the center hatch up to get to the sealed deck hatch and saw condensation on the inside  hatch. oh look, guess who forgot to unreal and vent the boat after sailing her at Black Park in September!
now, the hull on the Atlantis is huge and beamy. I struggled to get her up the stairs then had to slide her on the floor through the door into the side loft (29 inches wide door).
step over her, stand in a corner where my 2 size 8s just fitted, pick her up and turn an deposit her on the work table.  that completed, I went downstairs, grabbed the ibuprofen gel and gave my back a Good soaking, grabbed a cuppa, the bleach, Mr muscle, wire wool, kitchen roll and a new bin liner. back upstairs. opened all 3 hatches, mould everywhere! i had not only forgotten to vent it, I had not even emptied the water from inside( she has always taken water on but i could never figure out where from)
so large 100ml syringe was used 4 times to empty the hull. I then got my 50ml syringe with the narrow tubing and emptied another 3 times from the keel area. she stank to high heaven. i then removed the propshaft, rudder servo, upper clear shroud protector, electronics board, battery and lower clear plastic tray. this gave me access to the lower inside hull. kitchen towel was put inside low down to soak up residual water and then everything inside was sprayed liberally with bleach and left hour an hour. all kitten towel removed, all surfaces wiped down and new kitchen towel put down and a listing of Mr muscle squirted in. left for another hour. in the meantime, I stripped the servos down, cleaned and re greased, all wires were taken off and wiped down with bleach cloths and 2 extension leads replaced for safety sake, due to some signs of damage.
she has been cleaned out again and will now be left in a warm room with several humidity bags inside her to totally dry out.
BUT......while doing this I found the source of the water ingress! as this is the v2 version of the Atlantis, she has a fixed propshaft(although fitted with motor and esc, neither are connected) the lower motor mount is actually screwed in through the hull from the bottom, with no sealing grommets!. now as i never built the original kit, I did not know this. So i looked on my plans for her, and none were supplied! this has now been remedied with 2 small o rings  on each screw and a liberal dousing of bath sealant inside over the screws. all the electronics work outside the boat. So hopefully next weekend I can start to reassemble her. with any luck she may be ready for Wicksteed!

Everyone should heed Mr Klunk's warning and give all your boats a thorough running between now and Wicksteed. I took the boat I'm intending on running out yesterday and gave it a proper thrashing, have found that I have a slightly dodgy Rx connection which has been sorted.

Things will always be easier to remedy now, so avoid disappointment at the weekend  :-))

Just done that myself making sure the models I want to use work when I want them to work!

Sorry to hear about Atlantis, hope you can get her shipshape for the Mayhem weekend. We had a similiar mis-hap with our train ferry last year when we sailed her in the rain on a night/evening sail and we thought we dried her out but the the following week she was still producing water on the bench top. When we looked beneath we found that she must had impacted with something and there was a split in the hull right on the curve as it disappears below the waterline. I spent the next two weeks cutting out the damage, drying out, and repairing.
Looking forward to the weekend. :-)

Hi everyone

It was reported to me last night that the campsite fee discount wasn't working when contacting Wicksteed Park reception. Needless to say I was more than a little miffed and I'm glad to say I have sorted it out.
It must have been my expression that they realised something was wrong as I was almost seething with annoyance!

Anyway, I found out what was wrong and its been corrected- four new receptionists were recruited last week and it was forgotten to brief them... not any more I now add! My point of contact in the park has now reiterated the discount to the staff and if you have any issues mention Laura (senior receptionist) and she'll will tell them off.

I will mention that make sure that if want to camp mention "model boat mayhem" early on in the conversation and when they ask what size your tent/caravan is say its the smaller sized one and this will put you on the lower campsite fee as larger tents/caravan get charged a higher rate. Obviously don't say that I said that as you'll get a better deal if you go for the smaller tent size.

Most Important

Please do not try to book your campsite this weekend, the road works close to the park inadvertantly cut the telephone lines going to the park and they have an intermittent telephone service and the computers are all down due to the network failure! Try, like me, to book from Wednesday onwards, Wicksteed Park apologise for this inconvenience and will try their best to get all booked in when the system is back up and running.

Any problems don't hesistate to contact me, the quicker you tell me the quicker I can sort it out. :-))

I've just trawled down the whole of this thread and I still don't know if there's any procedure to adopt when trying to gain admission on the day. Do we get a discount on the usual entry fee? If so, how do I go about it? In the past there's been a downloadable "pass" to show but I can't see any reference to that for this year. Do help, please... I'm getting older by the minute!

Hi Dave

Youíre not missing anything so youíre sane there.

Essentially you turn up to the main gate at Wicksteed Park where you get a parking ticket from the machine. The machine issues the ticket and raises the barrier. You follow the road around to the right and keep following it until you see a kind of a three way junction- youíll see the campsite to your right-donít go in to the campsite but turn left and follow the road into a field where youíll see the car park. There will be Mayhem signs up to follow.
The car park fee is something we canít get any discount on because itís so variable. Essentially the maximum youíll pay is £6 which is for all day parking, and for less time there are lower parking fees going down to free for 20 minutes! To pay for the ticket when you come to leave you have to go to the main complex which youíll pass on your way out. There are three machine or you can pay in reception. And finally you present your ticket to the exit gate machine and itíll let you out.
Itís changed a lot in the last few years as we used to have to pay £6 regardless if you were there for five minutes or all day and on the old system it was easier to set up a discount on it. The new one is fairer for everyone as it has ranges going from free to £6.
Hope this helps.

I mentioned many posts ago that reception had no idea about the discount. It was Laura I dealt with and I asked her to ring me back when she had clarification.
She rang back within the hour and took my £75 after discount but I never received a receipt nor a reply to my later email asking for one.
I just intend to arrive around a Friday lunch and block the road with my van until they get things in order and direct me to my field  {-)

Hi Andy

No need to worry and block the road :D

Whilst Iím not sure about the receipt you requested, on the Friday just visit the reception in the main complex and you get your campsite ticket and car pass from them. Whilst Iím not 100% privy to the workings of the park thatís what Iíve always had happen. When you get to the campsite youíll be able to see the Mayhem encampment just as you enter and look to your left.

Bring anything you like, Phil. I have long since developed an intense mistrust of folding tables, although being tended by two Abbots at once was an experience to dine out on...
Enjoyed our last Mayhem get-together (2017). Let's hope the weather holds good. Will be forced to go to the pub in Nottingham on the Friday but Saturday looks clear - according to my social secretary.
Checking out Swordsman at Papplewick next Sunday, with luck. Hope to bring the entire Fairey fleet.

Admiral B
I suspect coin of the realm will be the only legal tender, so recommend you leave the dubloons at home... along with all the cheap jokes involving Fairey Liquid.

Campsite update

If you havenít booked yet because of my last post regarding the telephone and network problems within the park Iím pleased to inform you that everything is up and running again.

Use the telephone number 01536 512475, choose option 1 then option 2 (follow the camping line of inquiry)
State that you are camping with the ĎModel Boat Mayhemí at the beginning of the conversation, some of the new receptionists arenít fully conversed with the discount system on the computers and will need assistance from Laura, please be patient with them.
Iíve just booked my place and it all works well, I usually visit the desk to book my place but Iíd thought Iíd check the system works.
Any problems give me a message and Iíll sort things out for you. :-))

See you there!

Just booked two of us in. Bit further than would normally travel but it sounds as though it might be fun. Fingers crossed. Not sure I got the discount even though I stated that it was for the model boat mayhem weekend, but seeing though I have no idea what prices to expect, or what the discount was, I'm happy.
Hope to be there Friday midday.

Hi Klunk

Thatís something Iím trying to do for next year too, get the campsite fee down even further. Probably have to sell my soul or something like it but Iíll get it sorted to get an even better deal now Iíve got better contacts in the park available to talk to. I hope to get it down to some more reasonable. Iíll keep you updated when I get more information but unfortunately not for this yearís weekend.

Looking forward to next weekend though and seeing everyone again :-))
Two of the four boats tested and ready to go!

Some information update

Please share to all you know are going to the Mayhem weekend.

Please be aware if you intend to arrive before 10am on the Saturday morning you will see a large group of runners around the park grounds. Donít worry about them, the organisers are aware of our event and the park management request the following rules apply when interacting with them:

Please drive at walking speed
Please keep to the right hand side of the road
And finally please be patient

They will be finished by 10am but we have to mention to all the early arrivers about the runners. The finishing line is in the same field as our car park but they will be further up the fielding by the time most people will arrive in the park only the stragglers will be left running!

For those not familiar with the park layout, to get to the lake car park follow the only road around until you see the campsite on your right side. Donít take the road ahead either but turn left on to the tarmac road and follow it and youíll see the car park on the grass. Please do not cross the railway line with your car unless directed by the parkís staff.
If you struggle to follow my ramblings there will be signs similar to the one below with arrows showing the way.

It's not really properly packed until at least the third go  O0 and when you've finished you immediately remember something you left inside the house for safe keeping! Aaaah!

my aim at Wicksteed.
for 3 years I have been promising myself I w buy and build the first boat I ever made. that was a billings Kadett, rereleased by Dean's 3 years ago. this year I'm selling  some of my boats, so hopefully if I make enough, I can buy one!!!!
have dug out some other bits as well, so pop by and have a gander!
