Title: Typhoon Sub Doesn't Like Water
Post by: timgarrod on May 01, 2016, 01:19:47 pm

weird one.

tested my engel tyhoon and works fine on the bank side, but when you put it in the water you lose all power(not fail safe as gyro servo dies aswell and not connect to the radio),

I have power up untill the wtc top is just under the water, then every thing stops. Take it out just a bit and comes to life does this every time.

don't think its a lose cable as tried lifting the sub at different angles just to make sure.
think this sub is scared of going under water  %%
any ides

Cheers
Tim

Futaba fc16.

I can rule both the tx and rx out as the rear plane gryo  that is independent of radio signal is moving up untill the power lose. even has the radar up so it rotated and that stop which is wired directly to the 6 volt battery.

Is it at all possible it's due to temperature contraction/expansion of some contact/surface etc.?

not conversant with the radio gear, I used Futaba M 27meg in my sub which gave me no trouble. nemesis

think i've found the problem. earthing issue. the alu lid was being grounded by a bulb used to lower the voltage for the radar and the front gearbox was grounded to the case of the motor. now have to remove the rear gearbox just to check if done the same with those motors  <:( .

Engel advise using a grounding wire back to the battery -v terminal to stop interferance to the radio Tim. you dont have to remove the rear drive motors just look for a spare wire going to the main battery or to the -v on the control board that goes to the rear of the sub.

Hi all, thanks.

it was total power loss. found the issue now thank to John R(thanks again, I own you one big time).

The person that built the tyhoon had a light bulb in metal holder bolted to the alu lid to lower the voltage for the rotating radar.
Also there was ground cable on the front gearbox motor,

As it's got a water switch to turn the boat on, as soon as the the WTC or the gearbox shaft was just touching the water, it was grounding and the switch was turning the sub off.

Cheers
