Title: I.O.M.TT races
Post by: BFSMP on May 14, 2016, 04:46:26 pm
Hello out there in ether land.

Is anyone out there going to the Isle of Man TT races this June.

My mate Neil reaches the Magic age on June 3rd and has decided at the last moment to have a day over there and has invited me along.

We are sailing from Heysham on 8th June at the god forsaken hour of 02.15 hours and spending the day there, probably at Quarter Bridge. sailing back later that day after the last race and practice  grid siting laps have been done, for Fridays Senior and final sidecar race. Sadly I couldn't get a ship crossing for that day. Oh Well.

If anyone is out there the same day and at QB then wear a mayhem cap and I will buy you a beer if one can be found.

Haven't been to the island since the late 1970's so am looking forward to it.

Might see someone of you all there.

Jim.

I hope you have good time. Last time I visited was as a teenager in 1973. Those were the days you got a sticker on the bikes petrol tank stipulating 'Tank Pumped Out'.

For those that don't know, once upon a time, the Isle of Man steam packet company, refused to carry motorcycles on the crossing with full petrol tanks. It was a safety thing before the days of health and safety! %%

This left you to push the bike aboard the ferry from the terminal (Heysham in my case) and then on reaching the island, a 200 yard push up the dockside to a petrol station, which was conveniently owned by the steam packet company. Here they sold the petrol back to you! :o When you think of the thousands of bikes that go over for the fortnight it was a very lucrative income for the ferry company! Either 1974 or 1975 they ceased doing this after many complaints and a petition to both the UK and the Manx parliaments to outlaw it.

thanks Brian,

I am very much looking forward to the day.

There are 3 races and two qualifying time trials.

So an action packed day.

Jim.
