Hi all well i figured since i seem to be ruining everything i touch lately i thought maybe i should try a new kit, if i make a hash up of this im going to take it as time to hang up my modeling tools and give up all together i decided to do all the chrome on this gold i was having trouble getting the gold leaf to stick to this but now is sorted the gold leaf sticks now but I couldn't get a good shine on it (its too soft as soon as you try to buff it (however gentle you are)it rubs off) so I've had to settle for imitation gold leaf (it's a bit tougher) I think it looks much better.
This is the main colour I'm doing it (not even sure if I will be adding another colour yet) I think the gold looks good with it, opinions please?

Gold and green do go together well. I saw a Dark green and gold Bass guitar once in a shop and almost bought it on spec; not being able to play the instrument!
We all have snitty periods in our hobby Ken. I wish yours gone soon, you have some interesting models on the go.

Hi all well i was looking at a poacher build of this car and (although it's a 1/8 kit do twice the size of this) I thought I could add more detail to the engine so I've removed a bit moulded to the engine (not sure what the part is) but I've seen it in a lot more detail on the poacher kit and I think it is a fairly easy bit to improve (I'm not saying this will end up like a poacher kit but I am going to try and add what detail I can)

Hi all revell put the location tab for this part but for some reason didn't make the part.
I've fabricated it also the other bits which are attached to the sump (don't know what any of the parts are) but they help fill empty spaces, they are not exactly right the black box thingy with 2 nuts on the top should have 3 but I've not got any small enough, but I figure it's better than having nothing there.

We know you can do as well as Poacher :-)) That magnetoey-gizmoey thing is a perfect example.

Nice work Ken on that engine. I love the colour combo too. Don't hang up your tools just yet :-))

Hi all done the seats now, I quite like the used leather look, I've tried not to go too far, I want it to look cared for.

-
That would pass muster as real leather Ken. The colour graduation is Brilliant.
-
Hi all I was asked by a few people how I did the leather so incase anyone is interested here's how I did it.
First I primed it
(http://i66.tinypic.com/16itpy1.jpg)
Then a very watered down coat of yellow ocher (I only used vallejo as I didn't have any yellow ocher in enamel, but enamel should work too)
Once that's dry a very thin coat of humbroll 62
(http://i68.tinypic.com/spyuc3.jpg)
Then a normal coat of humbroll 63 then whilst it's still wet, scrunch up some clingfilm film and dab it on the paint till you get the desired effect.
Then a coat of satin varnish
(http://i64.tinypic.com/280r608.jpg)
If I wanted to take it further I could scratch the paint then rub some buff coloured pastel into the scratch, brush it off then varnish it again.
I could go on and pluck holes in it put oil stains and all sorts
It's dead easy .
-
Very clever Ken. Thanks for sharing!

Oh well I've got another problem, we're baby sitting our daughters puppy (I can't be angry he's such a sweetie) being as how I've not had a dog for 20 odd years and my missus not had one for even longer, we're a bit out of practise, the dog is tiny it's a sausage dog he's 16 inches long so imagine my surprise that he can get parts off a 30 inch high table. The fuel cap is missing a few other bits are chewed (not too bad they can't be fixed) ( some of the ship parts I don't want to think about (gulp the Soliel may end up shelved) I made a concerted effort to stick to just this build to try and get my confidence back and although I can't get a good gold effect on it so far, I'm pleased with how it's going, I may end up just spraying the gold with gold paint or doing it high gloss black, it's funny I would be so cross if a human had damaged these kits but I melt when I look at frankie, I do love dogs, I look at this tiny animal and I just can't understand how some people can hurt innocent little creatures, I look at him and my heart melts

Aw, I quite like sausage dogs:O) After reading 'Judy',I have quite taken to English Pointers as well. Frankie is a naughty but lovely aminal.

That copper wire is great stuff to use for that srt of detailing. If you cannot treadily get scrap flex to strip copper out of, Hobbycraft do sell several diameters of copper wire in their 'jewelry' range.
Looking good Ken :-))

Hi all had a go at making the canvas top look like canvas

As you are going for a prisine top spec car, you can be quite sparing with depth and the like on your roof. All the picies I have looked at suggest a clean smooth fabric or leather top. The join between the rolled up front roof section and the rear roof is continuous and could do with filling to make it look as one piece.
She's coming along lovely.
-
Hi! all, well not to change the habit of a lifetime here is the progress on another ruined kit. I tried to use gold leaf but could not get enough shine on it, so I then tried alclad, which turned out rubbish, I've now tried ak real gold, the results are the best so far but still totally rubbish.
I see what you mean about the roof, I will endeavour to correct that.
-
It's a real bummer when you are not happy with an outcome yourself, your eye is always drawn to the blemish.
It looks ok to me.... :-))
-
Knowing how good you can get gold leaf, go back to the start and do some experients to get your leaf laying MOJO back and then have anoher go.
Is your size going off? It has been over a year sonce you started guilding and maybe the size has got a bit old? I don't know much about it but sometimes materials change their efficacy and characterisitics over time, so it may not be your method, just the material letting you down.
Look how paints go. You'll get there ken, don't let chewy dogs and some grotty glue get you down.
-
Hi all a small update on this.
Mate maybe you're right I did find that after I applied the gold it still felt sticky whereas before once the gold was on it didn't.
-
I love the plush door bottoms, Ever such high class :-))
-
Hi all nearing the end on this one now.

It's growing on me, maybe by the time I've finished it.

-
Well, she looks pretty good to me ken. The finish is certainly not to be criticised and the graduation between greens is not clumsy. The build looks good with no blemishes or nasty gaps so I would enter that in a model competition.
That is one well used 'Man Cave'!!
-
Well to be perfectly blunt and honest with you YOU should be KEELHAULED for even thinking you have SPOILT this model ...have you heck as like That looks really spiffing old bean top of the class.
.PLEASE PLEASE don't simply give up modeling you are such a talented chap I really WISH I had your paitience as I definatly couldn't achieve your standard of work
