Title: Best place to get styrene sheets
Post by: richald on June 11, 2016, 10:25:10 am
I need to stock up on styrene sheet . . .

A3 or 1/2 A3 (longways), white
0.5mm, 0.75mm, 1.0mm and 1.5mm thicknesses

Can anybody recommend a UK stockist that will post?

Thanks in advance

Richard

I recommend SHG models.  Here's their contact details. They can be seen at most shows.

Thanks Ken

I did a bit of scouting myself (via Google) turned up these people

http://modelshop.co.uk/Shop/Raw-Materials/Plastics/Black-or-white/ (http://modelshop.co.uk/Shop/Raw-Materials/Plastics/Black-or-white/)4D Modelmaking      660 x 340mm
.020" .50mm           £1.55
 .030" .75mm           £2.30
.040" 1.0mm          £3.05
 .060" 1.5mm          £4.60

prices are inc. VAT  size is a bit bigger than SHG's 26"x9"/660mm x 228mm
prices are a bit cheaper  just checked
postage ! 1 off each sheet postage is £8.45 !

postage cost will probably kill any possible order...

The folks at SHG are usually in attendance at shows as they travel around the country a lot.

I go purposefully to get the giant sheets of the stuff.    :}

Its a very nice modelers shop.  When I worked in london I used to visit there quite often.
Give them a call and they will be accommodating with the postage. (you can normally get the postage for free if your spending more than about 50quid)

I found a trade supplier using google. bought a sheet 6ft x 3 ft of 1mm & 1.5mm for the price of a single A3 sheet from a model shop. Can't remember whom but this is one.

I use these they are very quick, the only downside is the delivery cost but if you buy in bulk it is minimal.

This is who we use to supply Linkspan.  The postage cost is sometimes eye-watering but then styrene sheets are heavy when ordered by the dozen.  With you in Yorkshire you might want to think about collection direct - they do offer this which will save on postage.

The A3 sheets from model shops, whilst being convenient, are a very expensive way of obtaining sheet styrene.  Maybe club together with other modellers (if you are in a club?) to get larger sheets that you can take what you need from?

Carl

PS - We are finding that we have some decent sized and shaped offcuts left over from producing the kits so we will be offering them at shows (Blackpool and Warwick) at sensible prices.  They are no use to us.

Some of the guys used to go to the home store and pick up
"For Sale" or "For Rent", or "Garage Sale" signs for a couple of bucks.
Quick way to go if you're in a pinch.

Most Perspex or plastic shops carry bulk sheets.
