My wife and I took a two hour Thames river cruise to mark the occasion of my surviving the big Seven Zero boundary. No doubt I am from today barred from children's fairground rides and other such perks as being too old.
My new driving license is minus motorcyles minibuses and other previously held groups, and I will probably be forced to consider model boats of less than 10 Kg due to my new ancient status.
I will try not to be grumpy, or a g*t, but the 'old' I can't avoid now.
I did sail a boat today. Nice view of Windsor Castle from the river. O0

What really impressed me though was this set of boat launching slings seen at Windsor Marina.
Now if I could only back this up to the side of our lake maybe I could manage larger models after all %%

I didn't realise that I have only five more years of having my motorcycle licence attributed to my personal achievements.
Not that i'll ever ride again, but just nice to know I could if I wished to try.
Can you have it extended, as I have seen many chaps over that age still riding.

Yes you can apply to get those groups extended, but instead of the simple online application you have to go through a full DVLA paper application with all identity documents. I did consider it, but the likelihood of me riding bikes again is remote. I hung up my helmet a while ago after realising my peripheral vision and reactions were not as good as they used to be. The minibus one (mine was for 15 seaters) may now require some kind of regular retest.

Thanks Bob........like you it would be highly unlikely ever to see me on the saddle of a bike again, but when you have held one for nearly 60 years, is seems an insult to take it away just because f ones age.........but like you, I couldn't be bothered.

No need not to have the bike licence, renewal is not a big deal and I'm 72 bar a couple of months and still ride two bikes, though not at the same time, Mrs. still enjoys it too though a bit more prone to worry about the temperatures than before.
The automatic ''stripping'' when applying for the senior licence is all part of the ongoing process to 'itemise' licence privileges, and extra tests for all the add ons. But then again if one has the wit to realise that one no longer has the right skills to use it, then as you say no point in renewing.

Hi Bob , I renewed my license last year and kept all the categories I had before, IE. AM/A/B1/B/BE/f/k/l/n/p/q. So unless it's a new thing I would question it. >>:-(

I believe the new email driving license @ 70 renewal is a new system. I think DVLA are tightening up and trying to reduce paperwork. ie: When my Mum (now sadly passed) got her driving licence she just went into a Post Office and bought it over the counter for a few Shillings.

Before I had my heart attack and lost my HGV licence, I could drive practically anything with wheels...but I couldn't drive a milk float.

Codes for vechicals that we can drive not every ones are the same ,rules change older people will have more than younger unless thy have taken the new test .

Indeed. I passed my motorcycle test aged 15, and still have my original maroon cardboard cover passport-style driving licence. I tried to avoid the horrid 'modern' one for as long as possible.
