Title: I don't believe I just heard that..... (football)
Post by: inertia on June 28, 2016, 08:41:40 am
They have done fantastically and done everything asked of them.

'Woy' Hodgson, the highest-paid manager at Euro 2016, following defeat of England football team (the highest paid?) by a team which has no professional football league and only one professional player.

Perhaps in future the players should be paid on results? No win, no fee.

Not much of a surprise really, when you consider that the majority of our top premiership players are foreign imports, how are we going to field a team of 'top class' English players in a national squad. {:-{

They should be utterly ashamed of themselves, how much they get paid and perks they get and they perform like that, not just last night but for quite a few years. If that was in a proper job you would be out on your ear. But no, excuse after excuse, manager after manager, the same happens. Blame the F.A. they control our football, they have no idea about it, all they are interested in is making money, lots of it. We need to go back to the 80's when teams could only have 2 foreign players, and as for managers!!!!! Am i missing something.............English league, english players, english managers, breed and encourage youth players, breed and encourage a culture  of national pride from grass roots upwards. Play for the honour of wearing the National kit, not how much can be made out of it.

No - my point was that after such an obvious debacle the man could actually stand/sit there and say how well he thought they'd done. It was almost as if the rest of us had been watching a different team in another match somewhere else. It was on a par with some of the incredible nonsense which was spewed out by both sides during the lamentable Referendum campaign.
Are we all now presumed to be complete imbeciles who will believe anything we're told on TV?
Maybe we deserve nothing better.

Perhaps (now we're quitting the E U  :-))  ) the clubs can be forced to field a set number of ENGLISH players brought up from the lower leagues like it used to be . . .

I'm just glad I didn't watch a single minute of this farce.

Dalzell and Pascoe were fare more entertaining, even if I had watched it umpteen times.

Roll on the cricket.

Very well put. My sentiments exactly. I thought I had misheard him!

The thing is, what can he say?
"Well the lads were crap today". I can't see that one flying, no matter how honest it is.

There is another side, if the lads know they were crap, then words like that could be like rubbing salt in the wounds. Why? Because the words are so blatantly untrue.

My Thesaurus gives "grotesque" and "bizarre" as alternatives to "fantastically". Maybe that's what Woy was alluding to. I doubt if any of the current England players would recognise irony even if it wrote them a seven-figure cheque, so the word was rather wasted on them if that was Woy's intention. Perhaps the next manager might be more inclined to tell the truth, even if it does hurt. Here's an example of how it should be done:

"Well, I might as well tell you now. You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Don Revie. But as far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest ******* dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly. You've done it all by bl**dy cheating." Come back, Brian Clough - your country needs you more than ever.
I did read that Joe Hart was so filled with remorse after the Iceland match that he threw himself in front of a train - but it went underneath him.  %)   (That one also brings back memories of Gary Sprake)
And a final note for Frank Skinner; Football's still refusing to "come home" and it's 50 years of hurt now, matey. Doesn't time fly?  ;D

Who will the Germans beat on penalties now, eh?

Who cares?

"done everything asked of them"

"Right lads, out you go, I am relying on you to maintain my record - so remember your job tonight is to give the worst performance of any English team, ever. "

UNBELIEVABLE HAS ANY ONE SEEN THIS YET!? 😱
England Chiefs have noticed that Iceland have fielded an ineligible player for the last 2 games, which means they could actually be disqualified, and that could put England back in the Euro cup. Check it out on the BBC website. It's right. England appealed to FiFA only 25 mins ago. If their claim is upheld it will mean they are through to the last few, + could actually be on their way to be champions!!

Carlsberg don't do status updates for delusional English dreamers who STILL think they can win everything.
But if they did... this would probably have been the best status in the world.

Did he ever say that he was sorry for the dismal display?
