It was a nice day today, with on shore winds and the tide just right, so myself and Jack D headed for Langstone harbour to try our new and second hand corvettes in a bit of chop.
-
Mine was Snowberry and is mid refit into Snowflake, while Jacks is a short forcastle, Canadian variant, in the early stages of construction.
-
The weed was less of a problem than on our local lake, being kelp and the like as opposed to that stringy green muck!
-
As the tide started to drop, we decided it was time to call it a day, not before both models bunged up with weed, one requiring a full maritime rescue.
Good fun :-))

Nice weathering on the Snowberry - she really looks as though she has been ravaged by the North Atlantic :-))
-
I'll just have to imagine mine looks like this {-)

Both looking good, any update on the build yet?

Well, Alberni (the really unfinished one!) has had the gun mount cut down to the correct size and now sits at the right level for gun laying when the boat is in the water. She also now has a funnel and a really nice 3-D printed funnel cap. Unfortunately, I've gone away to do a masters' degree so I can't carry on building. That said, I have put feelers out to the engineering department who might be able to lend me some workshop space on the weekends.

Snowberry, having now finished the season intact, despite my best efforts at Action Stations to take the stern off with a depth charge (!), she is about to be transformed. I will be converting her into HMS Snowflake, which is an 'almost' Modified Flower Class vessel. She was launched four ships before the modified design was accepted. So she has the bigger bridge, plus extra armament of vessels such as HMCS Charlock, while retaining a slight rake to the funnel, plus retaining cowl vents around said funnel.
I shall be building a new bridge structure, as well as cutting an extra access hatch under the bridge. adding sound and working Aldis lamps. I am about to mold some fittings for it, including ammo boxes and 20mm gun shields, then it will be repainted in a 1944 scheme. Also, sorting out its slight list, caused by having a 1/4" slack, port to starboard in the battery retaining tray. Explains why it sometimes lists to port, sometimes starboard... my mistake!
Looking forward to some serious plasticard work, its been a few years since I played with the stuff, and I fancy getting stuck back in again.
