Title: 1/16 KNOCKED OUT TIGER.
Post by: eddiesolo on August 27, 2016, 11:05:58 pm
With me being ill at the moment my modelling time is down to 20 mins or so and then I am knackered. I have been using some spares from my RC tanks to make a knocked out Tiger as battlefield candy and also to house a background sound unit with machine guns, explosions etc.

This is three weeks work and still more to do on it, tracks, wheels and more weathering {:-{

Hi Eddie. Sorry to hear that you are not well, I hope that you get better soon. As for the Tiger, well, certainly looking the part all ready. Looking forward to seeing the end result :-)) Thanks Eddie, and get well soon.

Likewise Eddie, look after yourself. You and Ken provide us with a keen dose of model finishing ideas and top techniques so we want you in top form!

I like that very much, the look of the wear and tear is first class. I have seen very old vehicles in classic vehicle magazines up for auction or being restored that look just like that.

Cheers mate, just got back from a break at the caravan but over did it so will still be taking this easy. Hopefully I can do a bit more on her this week.

Thank you, it has taken a long time and around three various weathering layers just to get to this. I have a set of wheels and tracks to finish her off so hopefully they will be done soon.

I don't know if I can contribute anything to finishing models-knackered maybe  O0

The tracks and wheels are fitted now and have had there first round of weathering and rusting, there is still some stippling to do on the rear mudguards and the wheels and the tracks to blend more.

Thanks Peter, about a week of faffing with paint to try and get the effect. Balance of Terror, good episode.

Hi Neil, thank you very much. I wouldn't want the Hatchette Tiger looking like this lol, too knackered.

This is my other 1/16 Tiger, she is RC.

In fact, these are some old piccies as she has know has a metal lower hull, sprockets and idlers. Also the aerial is gone from the back as she is on 2.4.

Fabulous work and incredible attention to detail. After D Day the first French armoured division was  formed using reclaimed tigers salvaged from the battlefields of France so your markings are accurate and not necessarily graffiti.

Thanks Ned, have added to it but not much. I added a whip aerial and some European dust, just to give it that left look. Glad you like it mate, really appreciate you stopping by and commenting.

Interesting info there, thank you for that. This tank was just to have some Resistance markings on it to bolster morale etc but a Free French Tiger would be something to do. Glad you like it and for the comment.

I really like the rust encrustations you have added.

I have seen lots of good weathered armour before but the built-up rusted areas are really impressive - I need to see what I can use to build up some raised relief on some of the rust like you have done so well.

Nice work!

Thank you very much, glad you like it. I saw a few pictures of tanks that had this crustiness, not sure if it is stuff on the decks or from inside or both, I used a thin sand mix applied with PVA then painted and pigments added.

Really Nice work Eddie.

I have a few 1/16 Tamiya tanks that have not see the light for day for years - you have inspired me to get them out, dust them off, and see how I get on with weathering them.

The rust colours have always defeated me - do you use any of the Tamiya acrylics for your rust colours?

Hi Bob, was surprised to see this post again.

Depends on what I am wanting to do with them. If I am running them RC then I use acrylic paints, browns, orange, reds etc to create a look, mainly because they are being handled.
The rust on this model was created using various rust pigments applied with pigment fixer, they look great but do wear off if handled.

Thanks for your reply.

The workshop (shed) is getting colder so I may get the plastics out again and see what I can do indoors in the warm  :-))

Merry (little) Christmas - Stay safe!
