Title: Deans marine SS City of Ely
Post by: XO on September 04, 2016, 08:24:45 pm
Hello to you all fellow modellers. I took my firs step to rc world by buying the new project. It took 6 weeks to get my order from westbourne, but now its here in finland. My first question for you is that what motor would be suitable to this model? I have had sailing rc boats, but this is my first motorboat. To get reaaly building i need to know what kind of a motor i will install. I am also interested to make working anchorwinch, so that i can lay anchor..
Pictures will follow...

I was forced to put it on pause for a 18 months but now it’s undar costruction again. I have been happy with the kit so far. Only minor headackes but nothing too serious. It’s going to be ready for the finnish modelexpo in may 2020👍🏻 I added a bowthruster because there was room for it.

I built the very-identical Liberty Ship model from Dean's - there's plenty of room inside the hull for anything you like - sound modules, smoke generators, lighting etc.    It needs plenty of ballast to get it to the waterline - I used cast Lead ingots so they could be removed to make launch & recovery easier.
Do you have any photos of your progress?

HI XO I built the this kit way back in 1998  by I did the military version James Blair then renamed Samarina then finally the City Of Ely. I those early days nothing was laser cut all had to be cut out by hand but all in all it builds to a nice model.

Hi Stan.
My kit is also ”old version” and uncutted. I have some pictures in my instagram at exact76. Just vow i am working with the deck details and wheelhouse. So, all and all it’s starting to look like a ship now. It,s going to be working model so i am thinking about how much i do the details to keep it still easy to handle. I am using divers belt weights as a ballast but i might change them to something less bulky.

My one sails well - although it's weight gives it a lot of momentum.
