Title: yet another one, every one should have one!
Post by: steamboat66 on September 05, 2016, 06:53:57 pm
i just started a springer. got a motor, coupling, and propshaft from MMM (they're only 25 miles away). it will likely NOT be pretty as my wood working skills are limited. but it shouldn't break as i found some 8mm hardwood ply which i used for the sides, and some 18mm shuttering ply for the ends. that will give me room to round the corners well (i just fancy rounded corners).

Have you completed the Hull now ..

it's going slowly (my build rate is poor). got some thin ply today for the bottom, as well as picking up my "variant" barge from mobile marine models.

my springer is currently sat on the floor of my workshop. i've concentrated on the variant barge this week. i'm away with the waterway recovery group this weekend, so i won't get into my garage to cut some of the 3mm from MMM for the bottom skin. so it will be next weekend before i get to do anything else with it. i may order the ESC for it and a couple of orange RXs this evening. i'm not totaly sure what kind of "upper works" to make, but i'm more inclined to something realistic than to something light hearted.

got some more done this morning  :} . cut some 1.5mm for the bottom, and glued one piece on. cut the deck from some 3mm. no hole in it yet, i need to get the gubbins measured up before i cut it open. cut out the deck for the varient as well, but only roughly.

i'll see what i can do. there is a file size limit on this forum, and i can change the definition on the wifes new camera. so i'll try to get the size right to post.

well the rudder stock has just been epoxied in, there's no going back now. the rudder is just a bit big for standard springer rules, 50mm x about 56mm, not that i'm that bothered. it will be kept simple and hopefully reliable as a simple pusher. then when i've got something else, it will double up as a rescue.

been a couple of weeks or so since i got into my workshop, but i've done a bit today. epoxied a support skeg between the propshaft and the hull on my springer, and i've just stuck the deck on my variant barge. i got some slow cure epoxy (evostick control) so i get time to work. i'll let you know what i think of it when it's been on 24 hours.

i've been busy with the waterway recovery group recently, and a bad cold for about 3 weeks, so i've not done much. but i've done a bit more now. got the rudder servo in and bulkheaded off the rudder mount. i'll put a hatch over the rudder for service access. it won't matter about cluttering the rear deck as it's a pusher. the servo will be accessible through the big hole for the upper works.

still building, (told you i build slowly). motor mount went in today. it's big and ugly, but the motor has no screw holes so i made a split clamp out of 18 mm shuttering. motor alignment was interesting. i made a solid sleeve from brass to replace the pvc tube of the MMM coupling, the pvc will go on when the hull is complete. pickies to follow (have to work out what i did last time to go lo def on my camera).
