Title: Sometimes, just sometimes....
Post by: Brian60 on September 09, 2016, 02:38:31 pm
You know that you are being ripped off :-))   Just because hobbyists nowadays are looked on as cash cows much the same as motorists and petrol, that is no reason to charge what they wanted!

A german dealer offering photo etch gratings, these are the size of a postage stamp and I wanted four of them, just 3.96€ total, a fair price. Then the kicker, postage from Germany to Spain another 11€ :o :o

Another hobby shop is now cancelled from my long list.

Well, you never know, it may be the postal service rather than the model shop responsible. Although with something that small it should just go letter rate.

I ordered a cover for my smart phone on eBay. It came from Germany (I checked the post mark) with free postage, and the cover only cost me A$6.50. It would have cost me more than that to post it to Queensland, and that's only 2 hours by road from my house. Deutsche Post can't be too bad.

As an update, I left him a message saying I had cancelled my order due to the high mailing charge. He apologised and said it must be down to the automated ordering system.

He had a look at his software and changed it around and I have now ordered and the postal charge came down from 11€ to 4.75€, so a software glitch and not an attempt to rip off customers. I would normally at this point give his address but as it has nothing to do with model boats I won't. He specialises in model aircraft kits but just so happened to have some photo etch that I needed.

I found this German manufacturer/supplier very reasonable with their freight charges from Europe to Australia. Manfred from Elde-Modellbau has also been extremely helpful in his work

He is not alone as I also find Winfried Niggle brilliant to purchase from.....list prices -19% tax + a small air parcel post  :-))......... Derek
