Title: First engine from castings.

I bought this Stuart D10 as a set of raw castings about 3 years ago.
Played with them a little until I found a series of videos on YouTube,
thank you TinkerJohn, that went thru the machining piece by piece.

Since I am going to be moving my shop over the next month,
I wanted to finish it up before I scattered the pieces.

Here it is - running on 20 pounds of air.

I do not know if I will get it into a hull.  It turned out a bit larger than
I had anticipated.  I machined both flywheels just in case I wanted to
also make it stationary.

Thanks for reading,

Hullo Jim.....good to hear from you......[how are all those 4 legged family of yours? %)......]

Need to remember that a displacement lubricator does not function on air.....

In good time, would like to see your next buildings...[water pump & reversing gear] etc

Derek,

The girls are all fine, thank you for asking.

I drip some oil into the air/steam inlet before I run it.

I am rebuilding my shop, so it will be a while before I have another
project.  My next build will be a MHB Topaz.  I found a un-built kit
in South Africa, took a while to get it here, and it is in storage for now.

Bram Moos - who I think posts here once in awhile, helped me find it.

Our pond season is finished here in Denver, yours must just be getting started.

Thanks for the comments,

Regards to all,

Bonjour Jim,
For me, the stuart D10, especially with the reverse and a water pump is the Rolls-Royce of the steam machines. It should not finish on a shelf!! Please, let it live  :-))
I already have two of them : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utYZJDJPBVg an Jan is a Rocket with a very good autonomy, thanks to the pump, the large tank and oiler : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqrJScYCvXA and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkbGPp5QIno . Injected wated in the boiler is heated with 1 meter tube rolled in the condenser ok2
Please not that I added plugs on the top of the cylinders to fill them with oil betwen two navigations because they fear rust
And I have a hull t receive your just in casehe would travel over the ocean %%

That engine will sound much better on steam as well as looking good. Once you get your shop moved, you ought to build a hull for it to power as it is a tidy unit. A new member of our club brought a steam cutter to the pond yesterday and that sounded and looked very graceful on the water.

A very good job Jim,
One caution before you run on steam you should put a U bend or loop in the line to your pressure gauge. It defiantly needs a Hull around it.

Gerald.
