Title: Painting Depron Foam Superstructure.
Post by: Big Ada on December 05, 2016, 05:32:35 pm
I have used Depron for the Superstructure on a Hovercraft that I am Building and wondering what Paint to use. I like Halfords Rattle cans, will the paint react and melt it ? any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Len.

 Hi Len,
yes it will even if the rattle can contains water-borne paint, the propellant will dissolve the foam though this can be mitigated to some extent by spraying from a much greater distance than usual but at the expense of a dry 'orange peel' effect.

I use Depron a lot in aeromodelling and I always use artists acrylic paint either brushed on or with an airbrush depending on how weight critical the model is. Most of my paints are Rowney brand, just a personal preference .

I seal my Depron with Ronseal floor varnish ( water based), or you can use Delux Ezekiel kite, both white, milky but dry clear. after which you can use rattle cans safely.
