Title: Mtronics problem
Post by: Klunk on December 28, 2016, 09:05:03 pm
Got a 10 amp esc from the above. Been working fine for the last couple of months. Today i took the boat out to find that when switched on the esc would only go full speed....ie full on or full off. No reverse. I tried to reset the esc but it would not go into setup. In fact when pressing the button whole it was flashing red/green it set the motor to full throttle. It looked like it was going into failsafe for aircraft. Took the rx out and rebound and checked failsafe which was set to 5% throttle and 20% right rudder. Switched all back on but still the same problem.  Press set up button and the motor goes to full speed.

Any one got any ideas.....apart from chucking the esc in the bin and replacing it with a microgyros unit

Yup, stick it in the post back to them. That is a unit fault, you cannot reprogram that out. They should be fine to replace it for you.
Microgyros rock, always said it, got one in the U-Boat. Never used Actions speed controls, look a bit agricultural to me, but seem to have a good following, although I have used many other Action items, right back to Craig Talbots day with no problems, so it's just me being a snob!

This afternoon it will be taken out of the boat and bench tested. If it still fails it will be consigned to the filing system and replaced with another, propably an action unit or microgyros.

OK it's on the bench. Rebound new rx connected same battery that I used in the past a 11.1v 1000mah battery and the servo is jumping everywhere. Put a 6v nimh on it OK 7.2 nimh OK 8.4 and 9.6 nimh all OK a 12v pb 4500mah OK then a 7.4v lip 300mah OK so what the hellos the problem with this battery. It's fully charged and balanced.

Have you checked the fully charged voltage
Of the naughty battery with a voltmeter?
Could be just ott for the ESC.
The Pb if fully charged should have around 14V
So check that as well.
Don't rely on a smart charger voltage indication
But use a multimeter or voltmeter.

The pb was at 13.6v. And that worked. The lipo was at 12.2v
And made the servos judder

Looks like the lipo is playing up under load.
Have you put a voltmeter across the input
On switch on to see if the voltage dives?

Right put a watt meter in Line all seemed OK but kept switching off when move.  The on off switch to escape is not playing ball at present.  Will replace that and go from there
