Watching a program on how the company expanded and became hand in hand with White Star lines so that they exclusively built for that company. It covers the development of the Titanic and how 'money talks' Much of the funding for the Titanic came from a wealthy American magnate called JP Morgan (we've all heard the name haven't we?)
Anyway he took a vested interest in the 3 sister ships to the extent he had his own private state room on 'B' deck with its own private promenade. But what really got me about this is that the bathrooms were fitted with cigar holders :o , so that he had someplace to put his lit cigar while he washed/bathed etc %% Who nowadays wields that sort of control? when you look back there were so few multi millionaire that the lifestyle they led could not even be dreamed of. Nowadays it seems commonplace for people to have that kind of wealth - the Donald Trumps and Roman Abramovich's, that people no longer even think about it.
Anyway its a 3 part series on great ships, episode 1 which I am watching on catch up is being aired on PBS channel of sky tv.
