Title: Speedline 16th Severn
Post by: bobgrimward on January 11, 2017, 03:14:17 pm
Hi Guys,
I am just about to start a speedline Severn and I have decided to fit brushless motors but I have never used them before so I am looking for some advise.
What motors would you recommend and speed controllers to suit. What batteries would I need to drive them, can you use lead acid as I have a few in stock.
I would appreciate any advise you can give and where would be the best place to purchase them.
Many thanks in advance. %% %% %%

Hi Bob

I have fitted 2 Turnigy D3536/9  910KV motors with Turnigy Aquastar 100 amp speed controllers driving Prop Shop  2222 scale props  55mm 5 bladed.  The motors and esc are from Hobbyking.
Hope this helps.

Hi Bob,

I have a 1/16th Severn and might find the time to start it one day. I will fit two Tornado Thumper motors paired with two Fusion hawk 60 amp speed controllers. Battery wise I tend to use individual 11.1 volt 5000mAh Lipo's

Whilst it may not be the cheapest option I have used this combination in several boats and it has been very successful. All items are readily available from UK suppliers.

Hi Shaun,

Huge difference in cost compared with Turnigy - is it worth it?

Thanks

I agree with you in regards to the cost Jeff, but I have several boats with this motor, ESC configuration and none of them have given me any problems at all. the big plus is they are available within a day or two in the UK and the ESC'S work on English as opposed to Chinese amps.

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for the info on motors.

Any idea how the thumper would go with jet drives? I have a Shannon to build too.

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

Join the club, I hope to also have a Shannon to build. I am having mine from Speedline and my understanding is that they will be supplied with a brushless motor for each of the jet drives.

Regards Shaun
