always a silly one to make, put boat in car drive to lake then go to find transmitter, only to realise that its still sat at home on charge!!

i agree colin but i call it a steep learning curve but i think Kurt would call it a gormless error.
i turned up today with my newly built makara and id put the brackets for my stinger strut upside down = stuffing tube too high up and very little adjustment = blip the throttle and it jumps out of the water  :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed: ha ha ha........Pete

i must admit to starting my boat up putting it in the water ,grab the transmitter only to realise i did not turn the radio on in the boat, took me 1/2 hour to get the bloody thing back from up the river.thank god for muddy river banks,oh .and i have started a nitro boat up backwards only to have the thing try and take my legs out when i throtled it of and it came towards me in the water,,,,,,,,,kurt

1. Start motor, throw in boat and watch it sail away, receiver power off ::) Likewise a half hour or so to row across the lake. Fortunately it was a jet drive so even stuck into the bank it had cooling.
2. Transmitter safely in hand, battery pack safe at home ???
3. Engine running badly on the water, squirt of throttle to clear it out and watched the spark plug detach, perform a beautiful arc and smack a hole in the new paint. Moral: tighten spark plug  O0

my all time best one was when i had a 5 foot boat with 2 zenoahs in it side by side,me and my best mate(now no longer with us,r.i.p)was down our river when the boat started to miss fire,i got it back, started it up and asked my mate to hold on to it at the end of a wooden jetty while i gave it a few small burst to see what was going on with the engines, well, you can image what happened.first blip nothing, second blip abit more throtle and there was this big splash with my poor mate trying to hang onto the back of the boat as it pulled away.he was not happy, but boy i could not stop laughing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,kurt

Submarine cock-ups... Dump sub in test tank, dive boat, surface boat, boat won't surface....... fault: left waterfeed pipe off and pumped radio compartment full of water! Conclusion:-  PILLOCK!

As above, wont surface but not feedpipe problem. Drag boat out of water Fault: bellows not seated as they were pulled back off the nipples the night before. Conclusion: Total PILLOCK!

Tell everyone else to check and double check and don't heed own advice............. PILLOCK!! :P

Always judge the distance between obstacles and the water bank.

My C.C.LEE bat boat flat out i miss judged the distance between lake and obstacle ::) result hit a floating haystack head on, ripping the motor mounts clean out the hull leaving BIG holes for her to sink (luckily got it back thanks to the styrene block in the nosecone).

on one of the local lake pete and myself go on, we boat stalled our boats and they ended up getting stuck against an island in the middle of the lake, so we decided to through  some rocks/stones near to the to make a wake thus floating them away from the island, this worked for petes boat so i carried on throwing rocks, in the mean time petes had cleared the island only to be stoned by an old lady that feeds the ducks, she thought i was stoning the ducks so she did petes boat threw rocks at his boat he he he ;D ;D

All boats are magnetic.  No matter how big the lake, they WILL find each other.  Unless you are trying to shove one back in.
Boat at lake.  Batteries fully charged.  Transmitter with charged batteries.  Red crystal in boat.  Yellow in transmitter.  Crystal box at home.  Bother.

plus some of us really dont care, you get like that when you race omra

Sorry Kurt - but this forum is read by many and while I don't really care if you have a go at your mates, I strongly object to your comment regarding  OMRA.
Some of us DO CARE - that's why we have rules!  They are not made by petty officials but are made by the OMRA members themselves to try and run safely and enjoyably.  We try NOT to lose venues by having noisy boats or driving them in a 'casual' (stupid) manner.
Yes, there will be the odd time in a race when another boat spins out straight in front of you, which you may hit.  That's one of the difficulties of having uncontrollable waves.  However, if you try to foresee these, and you've got a good 'spotter', you will avoid leaving with a bag of broken boat bits at the end of the day.
You build a good boat and will undoubtedly do well with it.  You're information has been valuable to others and I agree with much of what you say.
Don't spoil it by writing (even in jest) without thinking.

Danny

hi danny, everything here is said in jest, and when i said about not caring in omra,i ment about your boat getting damaged.i use to care about my boats and had somebody of done to my boat what happened to me at brynbach  at my local lake wild horses would not of stopped me putting that said person in the lake,no matter how it happened, but as these things do happen on omra i try not to care about my boat to much, that way if and when something does happen,i can just brush it of as part of racing, and not end up putting somebody where they really dont want to be becouse i have just seen my pride and joy bashed.,and end up out of omra,so you see,it is in my opinion that i dont care,i love omra,i enjoy the racing, meeting up with everyone and have even got another 2 new members to join becouse of what i have said about OMRA,i travel more than most to do 1/2 hour race, and have a good day,i agree that poeple do care in omra,we all do,i do,and all the rules are good, apart from half hour races, should be 2x 20 minute races,.but thats another subject,so in reply to you mate,i care about OMRA,just not to much about my boat,i hope we are now clear on the subject ,oh,and to everyone else OMRA is a really good thing for racing ic powered boats,so dont be put off becouse of my opinion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,kurt

Not mine, I'm glad to say Dicky!  My last swipe at a rescue boat was Coventry in 1987 - without putting a hole in it though!
Just after that, I started wearing glasses ::) ::)
Hitting rescue boats (quite rightly) is a cardinal sin and gets you chucked straight off the water.

The bloke in the picture is the famous Dave Marles who is current World Champ for something or other fast. ;D

Dear All,

Though unconnected with RC ships etc., when I was involved with a geophysics R/D co. during the late 1980's, they were working one Sat. am. on a prototype unit due out within a few days for field testing in Spain. I had been taking an interest all am. on/off, and, since the top of the main TX was off, had mentioned a couple of times to take care the multi block (about 20 lines), was put back the right way round (I had noticed there was no one way only fit). Well, me not being a tech., thought this was a sensible thing to say anyway. So, the top went back on and the screen burnt didn't it!!! £600 worth - this in 1987! I didn't say a word... just walked back to the office! What made things worse really is that it was the Tech. Dir. who put it back!!! Well, I suppose in the grand scheme of things it's not that large really, the Frogs did manage to build an aircraft carrier some years ago only to find the Launch Deck was about 40m too short!!! :D

Regards, Bernard

Godo, I assume you were wearing the correct safety equipment for working with superglue ie.. protective facemask. You don't want to set a bad example to the children !
I looked at all the smileys in an effort to find one which fits your post but there are so many I found to be suitable, I have included them all.. here goes:     :) or :D or  :o or ::) or :( or 8) or :embarrassed: or :P or the best one.... :-\
I'm with you on this one Colin...still laughing.. must'nt read it again...... oh perhaps just one more time eh!

Just dragged Mrs 85 in to read it - brought tears to both of us.

It's the way it's written - with the air of injured innocence - like the old time farces!  Top marks GODO  O0

I think you may need to reconsider your level of "protection". ::)

Very good Godo.  Best story / laugh  for a long time.  You said you went to the bathroom but did you have time
to GO before your wife and visitors appeared.

Me, I never make mistakes.  ::)  I'm perfect.  Well, that's what I tell my wife.  ;D

Now I've stopped laughing,,,  I took my new boat to the lake, the boat (a PT craft) is in two pieces, the hull and the deck and is made to screw together.
I carefully placed  the deck in my car and all the other bits and pieces, drove 20 miles to my club lake and....  YUP! you guessed right, I had left the b****y hull back in the workshop....   Never mind the deck looked nice.
