Title: Aussie Heat Wave
Post by: Peter Fitness on February 12, 2017, 03:26:25 am
While those of you in the northern hemisphere are in winter conditions, spare a thought for us here who are enduring a heat wave🔥. It's 43 degrees here right now, but only 41 yesterday, and we're far from the hottest. Some inland NSW towns have had weeks of temperatures in the mid 40s, so we're relatively lucky. It was our club sailing day in Ballina today, right on the coast, where the temperature was a mild 37, but it was lovely in the car on the way home with the air con going full blast. Fortunately the forecast maximum tomorrow is only 29 - bring on winter😀

Just imagine how much hotter it is out in the sun %) %) %)

You walk outside and it is like walking into a bush fire, literally takes your breath away. %% %% %%

A number of years ago, I spent two hours on No 3 Cast House Floor of the BlueScope Steel No 6 Blast Furnace...looking a faulty Mud Gun Slew cylinder function

The air temperature was 58 degrees C O0 ....certainly takes your breath away <*<....like breathing fire

Move to Melbourne?
19 degrees and occasional showers today
In true Melbourne tradition (4 seasons in one day) our top this year was 36.5 in January and lowest 7.6 4 days before.
Floods in Western Australia.
All those broken weather records.   Who says there is no climate change?
p.s. plenty of veggies in the shops down here.

After this it has cooled right down in Canberra. This morning daughter and I cycled 40km up back of Tharwa and it was really hot and humid. Tonight it's quite cold.

send some of it over here guys, my windows are rattling, draughts every where, rain lashing on them and the sea almost coming over the prom it is so wild with the winds coming from the arctic.

I am freezing my butt off and my £200.00 state fuel supplement top up is fast running out, so any hot sunshine would be welcome.

The winds at Knotty End have warmed up over the
distance from the East Coast where we are getting
them first.
No sailing today in a 40knt breeze from the Russian
Steppes.
With wind chill minus 3 even my terrier wanted home
after twenty minutes in the park.
Good weather for sanding indoors though >>:-(
Ned
Update, now 50kts

Hi all up at 07:30 Oz time for breakfast needed sun hat as the sun is back,  Had breakfast on patio and watched the family of ducks drinking up the dew on the grass and then a bit of preening and back into the water.
Get out my diary to fill in last few days, watch the birds flying off to feed, I have only got 2 more days of this, am I missing Blighty?
Now there is a poser.
regards Roy

The weather's much better now, only in the high 20s and a cool breeze,a great relief after the weekend's furnace. There have been some disastrous fires in Victoria though, a number of houses destroyed and livestock killed, but luckily no loss of human life. At one stage it was reported that there were 86 separate fires burning throughout NSW. My admiration for the firefighters is unbounded.

Peter,

Have to agree with you about bush firefighters not an enviable task.

In another life, had to take part in tackling a bushfire, huge and moved very fast, luckily the bush airstrip we were using to fight the fire from allowed the fire pass.

Definitely not a job for amateurs, the heat, noise, lack of air, is an experience not forgotten.

I wish some of the rain would come our way, it's looking very dry now - no wild storms though.

That sounds very nice, Colin, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Only 88 days to go before we head off around the Pacific %)

We had 8 mm of rain overnight, but missed the main body of the system as it passed to the south of us - again :((  The temperatures have dropped considerably, down to a normal summer range in the high 20s and low 30s, much more comfortable.

I hope you both have fantastic trips.   We are still talking about ours to Mauritius in January.
Summer in Melbourne must have happened whilst we were there as we have not seen it since we returned!  {:-{
40 mm. of rain, hail, thunder and 17 degrees yesterday so I had to go looking for new curtains instead of boating.  <:(
