hi all.
After being inspired by Stans new fishing boat,I've got to finish a Cygnus revenge I started a few years ago.
just a couple of electrical queries.
1/ I've fitted a Mfa torpedo motor with a 40mm prop,but not sure wether to use a 6v or12v battery.
Also what amp/hour to get decent run time.
2/ what amp speed controller for this motor.

HI Randy p/m sent a little more info on the motor please is it a torpedo 500? Once we know more about the motor the rest will drop into place. MFA have good web site giving full spec for there motors. Thank you for your comments on my build are you going to Ellesmere this week end? Suspect operating voltage will be 6 to 12 volts like I said earlier need more info on motor to determine speed controller

I run my Sea Queen on an 850 with a 20amp ESC and 12v 7ahr battery

Hi Randy just checked the MFA web site the 850 motor runs on 12 volts and at maximum efficiency draws 10.82 amps stall current is 61 amps hope this helps.

Hi Randy, you aren't going to get a lead acid battery are you? Definitely not ideal.

Hi Randy, the lead acid is heavy, and not suited to heavy drain applications. I would use a NIMH battery. Have a look at the batteries on the component shop website for ideas about size and prices. They do some excellent speed controllers too.
Other members might recommend lipo batteries, these are very good but need strict adherence to the charge / discharge regime
