What do you use for heavy boats? I'm looking at folding fishing carts like the Trakker Galaxy

Or this much cheaper

-
Or a possibly more stable twin wheeler

Are they on ebay %)

Are they on ebay %)
Everything is on ebay but not necessarily cheapest

John
PS we used it to move Mikes 3m long QE2 at warwick

:-))
Theres a major angling shop near me so I'll have a browse in the flesh on Friday
-
The local Hardware conglomerate carries two different wagons, i own the red version...
-
A chap that attended the Wicksteed show last year had a trolley mounted on bicycle wheels. It had a superb ride that absorbed bumps and wbbles better than smaller wheels. Many boats will ride these out, but some models are that bit more fragile and don't like wibbling especially if quite old with brittle glues/ building materials. I recall it was home made, so if you can get some wheels and do a bit of light engineering you could make a trolley with an easier ride to your personal specification:O)
-
Good replies but I'm still erring on the side of folding carts as most boats will fill a boot/trunk. So I want one that will go behind a front seat.

thinking outside the "boot"

{-)

I use the same as cos, £30, i dont use the nylon bag, i fitted a ply floor and large boats slide into the truck with transmitter and batteries etc all carried together, empty it weighs about 15lbs, and folds to fit behind the passenger seat, (the models are in the boot) looked at fishing trolleys/barrows etc, very expensive and not much better than the truck

Just a thought, maybe a folding / collapsible wheelchair could be adapted or even a baby buggy or pram.
Ian.
-
I would often see baby buggies, in a sorry state, down at the tip/recycle centre. They could provide wheels, and if more pram like the chassis too.
-
Skierdive, Looked at wheel chairs and baby buggies, the wheel chair with the canvas back removed would work, keep the upright handles. A baby buggy is more integrated and most are difficult to alter, the canvas is usually one piece and part of the chassis.
tigertiger, if you just use the wheels, the effort involved as well as cost to make a chassis and framework is not worth the time, much better spent building your models and spend a little on a truck
-
I have one of the original Silver Cross push chairs. Hard to find these days.
Remove 'chair' parts and add a 'drop in' horizontal platform.
Surprising how much it can carry, with room on the tray underneath for TX bag and camping chair.
-
My 1:12th Tamar sat happily on a converted golf trolley that I got from the local recycling centre.
I bought that estate car because the trolley/boat fitted perfectly.
-
Wonderful :-)) smashing craft
-
Good one mate, the only problem is it will fit the Tamar but what about other boats??
Mark
-
I use a slightly modified shopping trolley. £10 at the local discount store. It carries my Ben Ain, 48" and 27 lbs, quite easily and folds flat.
John
-
Surely the shopping trolley only cost a pound!? %) , they do down our way anyway!
Chris
-

Mark
That trolley is dedicated to the Tamar, but in reality it is an old golf trolley with a cradle fastened to it. Design the cradle to take whatever boats you want to move.
-
I dont see the problem I just take the car to the edge %) %) %%
-
I too used a golf trolley, simply fabricate a frame with two web straps which undersling the hull, so it will adapt to snugly fit any shape hull you want. then the frame clips to the gold trolley with 2 smaller web straps so easily removeable, and you can use the frame as a boat stand too, so very universal. used it for 5 yrs now and not a problem, and the golf trolley folds up and light to carry and hand up in the garage.
-
There's tidy for you isnit :-)
-
I use an old pram with a piece of chipboard.
-
Of course you could build your own trailer and trolly.
This one is for 1:100 Missouri, QE2 and QM2 (3.6 metres long)
-
Great replies and pics :-))
-
May need a bit of refinement but !!

It's been a while {-) BUT I now have a transporter.
A converted newspaper cart.
I should also be able to launch and retrieve it with this.
It also folds :-))

nice old Penn Reel.......worth a bob or two now as a vintage piece of memorabilia. :-))
Jim.
-
I had it gifted recently, not in best condition but fully serviceable 👍
-
that model was my first boat reel off my parents when I passed my gce's in the early 60's.......good reel.......and the old ones are going up in price these days......like the old Mitchel's too.
-
I've searched eBay and cannot find one like this and unusually mine has no model markings on it.
-
been trying to remember what the model no. was since telling you, but can't....it'll come to me.........but i'll look on the US ebay as they were a US reel.
the reels on the US site ain't so hot but mine was this model....the 109.

-
nice one, :-))
Jim.
-
"The Range" had these folding things they called 'festival carts' Today for about £40. Nice soft sides and good squidgy tyres.
-
Hi Tug, Thats the one i have bought, folds up into a small size, also altered mine, removed the "bag" and added a ply platform so my smaller boats don't fall through, depending on parking i can have a 1/2 mile walk to the lakeside, can now take a few boats to sail instead of struggling with one
-
I found out why there are no PENN identification marks on the reel {-)
I took it off to fit the new one and on the back of the mount is says made in Japan. So its a lookey likey ;D
-
My trolley above for the Athon is not suitable for the Portgarth and not good on rough ground either.
My stand that I put together for its construction is so robust I figured I could evolve it into a cart and later make another stand for display/storage.
These are barrow wheels off eBay.
I've used 20mm conduit for the axle and 25mm conduit for the keel line tube that will after tomorrow accommodate a slide in handle. Just need a leg under the front.

Very nice job Andy :-)) looks just the job
-
Thanks Paul. I'm quite chuffed with it O0
I'm going to give it a paint job ,probably Royal blue and I have some BIG Portgarth stickers for the sides {-)
A grip for the handle is the only problem as the tube will be 20mm. Bikes start at 25.4 {:-{
-
Pity you are not a company, we used parrr for handles on 20mm bar, the old companies gone belly up or i could have sent yuo a couple, 2 r,s in parr
-
Thanks for the heads up :-))

What about something like fishing rod shrink wrap it's a thin rubber that is quite grippy in differant diameters that you can just cut to length, something like this (but local tackle shop has probably got some https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/361364301053?chn=ps&dispItem=1&adgroupid=46622246639&rlsatarget=pla-369907351582&abcId=1128946&adtype=pla&merchantid=7267454&googleloc=1006565&device=c&campaignid=857250873&crdt=0&var=630707264710 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/361364301053?chn=ps&dispItem=1&adgroupid=46622246639&rlsatarget=pla-369907351582&abcId=1128946&adtype=pla&merchantid=7267454&googleloc=1006565&device=c&campaignid=857250873&crdt=0&var=630707264710)

Good try but ordered already O0
-
Shame I could have sent you some
-
Shame I could have sent you some
Very kind offer :-)) I never thought of heat shrink but I also have it at work hence the free conduit ok2
-
No worries Andy :-)) I don't have it at work but I have rolls of it at home as I also rebuild fishing rods
-
I built this - then added steering
-
Completed this evening after knocking it up at work {-)
