hi here is a link to an interesting website - a lot of the shipyards in the North East - sorry I cant vouch for some of the characters in the photographs - and some of the photographs being rather strange and look out for the bent Turbinia

The image of the rudder frame was very interesting and an insight on how these giant structures are built. At first, it was so big I could not 'see' it and had to study it to get the whole idea because it was so large. I presume that further structural elements would be rivetted to it before the plating was done, or were the plates shaped so as to provide the edges as well?

Thanks for sharing John. I like Black gate and the old colour images, very atmospheric.

  I think that shot of Turbinia was when she was being sectioned for transport to museum display.

More likely it was after it was hit by the Crosby while it was being launched cross river. The Turbinia was almost cut in half.

Thank you so much John as I was born in Hebburn  and married a Sunderland lass  it bought so many memories but not the real old one's as am not that old am busy making the Sunderland SD14 at the mo
