Title: Receiver--voltage

Hi All,
        Need some help if possible,I do not understand voltage to my receiver,6volts to 8.4 volts,anything more will damage the receiver
I want to use 12volt batteries,how can I do this without causing any damage,you will have gathered by now I'm new to this

If your ESC has a BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) that will provide the correct voltage to the RX. Otherwise use a separate battery for the RX.

Yes thankyou for discussing this chaps  8) I now know exactly what a BEC is and can wire up one of my models with confidence.

Right then i presume from your post you have one of these

if so it does not have a bec and will need a seperate receiever pack........
are you using an ACTion power board or not.....if not the contact Component Shop and ask them fior  a 5v bec power supply....this is simple to wire up....just connect poss to batt and negative to batt and the receiever is connected to it via the 3 cable plug.....simple as that as there unit will then reduce your batt voltage to 5v to supply your receiver

        What you presume is correct Action P93 Multicontroler  I will be using an Action P92 power distribution board

Joe simply connect the cable with 3 wres and the small plug into your reciever red/brown/black and away you go NO need for a separate batt pack or anything...The P102 alreay has this facility

Dave, Joe is not using a 102, but a 92.
No facility for bec on the 92.
Joe, you will still need a ubec off your
12V supply or a 6v nihm receiver pack

For what its worth, I would always use a separate battery for the receiver. Too many chances of the main battery running down and then shutting the receiver down. I've never been struck on the BEC concept - good in theory and I know lots of people use them but also lots of people loose control some times and it invariably a battery voltage issue.

On the other hand, if the main battery runs down that far, there is nothing to control.  With more than one battery there is a good chance that the least noticed one, probably the RX one, will not be charged.  Hopefully it will just leave the boat drifting, but it could leave an uncontrolled boat doing its own thing maybe flat out.  Or, depending on wiring and ESC, reverse only.
Anyway, a separate BEC, if required, takes up less space and weighs less than almost any RX battery and will always give the proper regulated voltage as long as the main battery has enough go to drive the rest of the boat.
Of course, for a big collection of extras like lights, sounds, working goodies, a separate battery for them makes lots of sense.

Most people I have seen sailing rarely run their model long enough to worry the battery anyway (Perhaps it is a Yeovil thing!) so unless you are doing a seriouss amout of sailing, or you use the same battery for more than one model in a session, then just be careful and keep your batteries charged in the manner they work best in.

Component shop will be at Doncaster show this weekend as of today. I suspect they have been saving stock for there to avoid embarrassment and not updating online stock status for now.


I agree there is no point having power to the receiver if everything else won't work  {-)  A BEC is the way as many have said ;)


I have noticed with mine that the main motors do start to noticeably under perform well in advance of the receiver which is as I'd expect as its the reduction in battery voltage that slows them but as the receiver uses a much lower voltage it is unlikely to die

cheap as chips and reliable, i use loads of these, i have them on every rc heli, plane, boat i own, you need to buy the 5v version.
