Hi, they are not 10 sided, they are 12 edged... :} , not sure why they keep referring to them as 12 sided ?.

Also if it is the same article I read I believe that the coin may be a coin that was given to some companies for them to test the machines beforehand but has somehow been put into circulation...The Mint still claims there are no forgeries out at the moment.

As even the old one pound forgeries were easy to detect I doubt a good quality forged coin as shown would be available yet, but I could be wrong.

a] because there is a face and obverse side and god knows how many faces around the circumference....which, in their own way are faces, just as those are faces around a cube. They are only not classed as faces if they are a 2D projection as in an orthographic drawing!

b] now who cares whether they are 10 or 12 sided, doesn't alter the point that there have been stories that they are being forged........what a waste of money altering them in the first place......imho.

They aren't being forged, the Mint simply says there are minting differences making them all slightly different.
They can be forged if you try hard enough but the two metal coins are a lot harder to do well.

Not many circulating in Kunming I reckon
But, how many are going to count the sides
or whatever?.
Did you ever count the sides om a threepenny
bit, or for the youngsters, the sides on a fifty pence piece?.

2 sides 12 edges...
sorry to be as pedantic as yourself  longbuild but the definition of an edge is.....

an edge is a line segment on the boundary.... ie. a 2D defining line

Anything that has 3d definition is a face or side.     therefore, 14 sides or 2 sides 12 faces

Be as pedantic as you want, does not bother me, but going from your definition then it actually has 36 edges

correct but, because an edge is a 2 d line on paper......the other "edge" would not be seen as it is immediately under the boundary line, unless in 3 d projection and then it transfers to a 3d face  edged by boundary lines........ but an edge, isn't a face or side.in fact you would also have to count the 13 edge lines between the 12 small facetted faces on the outer rim.

I used to teach technical and building  drawing in a college. O0 {-) <*<

I blame the changes to building methods leading to a lack of rivets requiring counting  %)

I think you'll find that there are 12 edge lines between the facets :)

I understand even numbered faced coins are preferable over coins with uneven numbers of faces O0 ......all to do with the coin path in vending machines

At one stage Nutt & Muddle and Aristocrat [poker machine manufacturers  <*<] were having the coin path CNC cut from an exotic metal material, however this was prematurely wearing the coins

The latest material for these components is I believe a cast ceramic ......OK for me as I am not tempted to donate my coins to these evil machines.....

Why do you think it is a forgery ?.
These pictures are one of mine, Can Guarantee it is Genuine.

Have put yours next to mine, I personally think your coin is fine..

I have had some where the Hologram is good, others not so good, I can see lettering inside the rims of your coin.  When you compare the pictures everything appears to be where it should be, I really doubt it is a forgery,  :-))

And no chance you have 3 forgeries. That Video was done in January, the coins only came out in March which means it had to be a sample coin, also I am not aware of any coins issued on the day that were 2017, all were 2016 I believe

Re: Fake new £1 coins?

Just raided the good lady's purse..... needed a crow bar and plasters for the mouse trap, took these photos.  O0

The holograms are hard to see and on this coin you can clearly see the micro edge writing!
