If it's the one by Glynn Guest (called GIAKOMO) it is listed as Model Boats magazine April 2003.

Ray.

If it was this one:

The plan and article were published in the February 1968 issue of Model Boats.

There is a hull available too.

Also, there is an article by David Petts in Model Boats Nov 2012 using this hull and plan.

Further to the 1968 magazine article which Colin has posted and the 2012 by Duncan, a two part item on a Grand Banks schooner was featured in the June and July 1980 editions of Model Boats magazine. Model was described as a 'Taylor-made vessel'. Not in stock at the magazine exchange but the links are posted for information.

HI I think I have the Taylor made article.  Mike Taylor was the founder of the scale model yacht association and I was an early member.  He published a magazine and he did everything himself printed and wrote most of it and we used to see him at the Model engineering exhibition each year.  He died sometime ago probably assisted by the cheroots he used to smoke.  Nice guy though
The article is OK but do not break your neck trying to find it.

If you do use the afore mentioned hull I think by L R Armstrong then it is a bit tender,  I saw one sailing and afterwards I put an extra inch on the bottom of my hull with some more lead in it.

I am ashamed to say that my boat is only 3/4 built.  My one is modelled on an English Fruit schooner plying out of the West Country to S. France and Spain in the 1890's.
After sailing the Von Altona sailing boat, I wrote an early article (before the MMI review) having interviewed the salesman at Dortmund exhibition. (20+ years ago)
This boat has collapsible topmasts, i.e. they are just held in position with a locating pin and he used to transport the boat fully rigged in his Clio car.  A  very small car.
It also makes mounting the ratlines and rigging simpler with permanent fixtures.  I made  the new masts for mine and they dropped down and worked fine.
The sailing ship is fore and aft rigged but my problem was getting the two square sails on each mast working to my satisfaction, as this was a feature of this fast sailing ship.
I may get her out again and have another go but.......tempus fugit.

best regards Roy

Thanks for the info on the articles .
I have an old scratchbuilt  hull  that I have been sailing for the last   20 odd years that now  renovating and was just wanting the deck layout again . I will check through our clubs back issues of Model Boats in our library .

I finally dug out  the magazines mentioned ,  but none of them are the same model except the 2012 magazine which used the fibreglass hull .I know that it was a free plan and article in the model boat magazine but I don't know what month or year .Has anyone got more brilliant ideas ?
